Flickering, stuttering, low frame rates, staircasing on character models, etc. Plus, I feel like the ball goes flying off in nonsensical directions based on a bee's ♥♥♥♥ input difference from the perfect shot marker.

I honestly would have liked it better if Everybody's Golf (2017) was ported to PC instead. Finally, this is just me ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, but having no character customization after the first EG is sooooo stupid. I know the previous Hot Shots entries didn't have CC, but that doesn't mean this one couldn't.

I'll retract this review if they fix the bugs. It's day three from release so i can at least be gracious after some fixes.

I absolutely love this game and the Overture DLC exceeded expectations. I highly recommend playing this game at least once.

The story, the characters, the writing, the bosses, the music, is exceptional. One of the only games to move me emotionally with its story.

Cool soundtrack and community. The built-in bug report system honestly should be in more games like this. If there was anything negative I could say about the gameplay, then it would be that there are plenty of dice that I just never pick under any circumstances. Otherwise, good game so far and I patiently await each new update.

Spent 80 minutes in a game. 9/10 objectives completed. I was trying to get infected to finish the last objective at Research Center and call the chopper. I kept repairing the generator to lure creatures over so they could infect me. I wouldn't even have to do all of this if infection masses spawned for me at RC on a regular basis, but I digress.

I got hit at least 7 times by three different creatures, and still did not get infected. One of these creatures was that snowy, UFO-headed one that always knocks an item off you when it hits you. Problem is, now my shotgun is lost in the snow and it is impossible to find it. As it stands at the time of writing, shotguns do not glow like other items. IN ADDITION TO THAT, the snow completely covers any items within in a minute. So now, I lost my shotgun that I was carrying through most of the game, and the only weapon that dropped in this area was the worst gun in the game, the hunting rifle.

I somehow manage to kill the Snow UFO guy and I am STILL NOT INFECTED after 4 hits. I turn the generator back on and wait. 10 MINUTES LEFT IN THE GAME.

Possibly the worst enemy to spawn in breaks the generator. Not sure what to call it, but it's basically a skinny looking spider enemy that is REALLY FAST. Again, all I have is the rifle, in all of its awful, useless glory. No hip-fire accuracy. No sight accuracy. Basically, I'm doomed.

I spend the next 5 minutes jumping around trying to dodge this thing since it doesn't run away after hitting you. This helps break up the action and give you a moment to recollect yourself. Most enemies in the game have this fight pattern. This spider thing? Nope. It just sits there in front of you, waiting to hit you again.

There is no escape from this monster unless you get to the upper walkways and jump off once it is on your tail. Any attempt to run away after it hits you is fruitless, as the spider thing can close the gap easily. Oh, and even if you make it out of the spider thing's reach, it just runs around the area at 70 mph frantically until you are reachable again. Safe to say, my game's over.

I can't call the helicopter because the generator is broken, and fixing it would mean meeting up with my speedy, spider friend again. Any attempt I make to run to my snowmobile would be met with a similar outcome. So, the nuke drops on my head and I lose a good 4000 points on my game-end total.

Even though I am FUMING right now, I'm going to try and address all of the issues that were highlighted by this situation and hopefully inspire some fixes for them:

1. The Research Center objective is way too situational, which wouldn't be bad if infection masses spawned on a regular basis and if infection itself wasn't so inconsistent. In my opinion, this objective should be changed or removed from the game entirely, at least for now.
2. Items need to be easier to retrieve if they drop in the snow and shotguns need to be highlighted again.
3. The rifle is an abysmal weapon, with slow reload and firing speeds and a rotten scope to boot (the laser sight is awful, too). I ALWAYS ignore the rifle in favor of any other weapon.
4. Enemy behaviors are highly inconsistent. In this case, it resulted in a situation where I could not plan around the enemy and could virtually do nothing except die.

There are A LOT of issues with this game, but I was truly enjoying it. Sinking into the atmosphere, learning the best routes to each objective, playing with the perks (which also need an overhaul, but that's another conversation), and guiding friends who have never played it before.

I could go on and on with suggestions and gripes, but this review is long enough as it is.

I will not put another minute into this game in its current state.

The simplified, cartoon character art style is charming and really cute and the overall visual presentation and story gets a thumbs up from me. The music is excellent. River Boy's soundtrack is superb and there is enough variety of tracks throughout the game so that I never get tired of hearing it. Again, great stuff.

This game's approach to combat is more hit than miss. It's quick, simple, easy-to-approach and the weapons, curses, relics, and cards add enough variety to the Crusades to keep me playing. I have two big complaints, though.

One, the hit-boxes on some of the enemy attacks are often inconsistent. Sometimes, those larger Cultists with the swords are turned all the way around, swinging the other way, and I still get hit. This also happens with some of the fireball projectiles. The fact that the sprites are in 2D while the environment is in 3D kinda makes it hard to tell whether I am in front of an attack or not. Two, and this just might be me, but I swear I am pointing the stick in one direction but the Lamb's swings do not respond to my inputs. It doesn't happen often, but enough for me to point it out.

Overall, the combat is good, albeit with some quirks. The mini-bosses and boss fights are very fun.

Game performance is spotty with some REALLY BAD dips in frame rate and terrible stuttering when playing for more than 3 hours. Changing the graphics settings does not help in these cases as it seems to be something with the Unity Engine itself. There are fixes you can look up online for the frequent stuttering while at your base, but even these don't prevent the game from damn near crashing at points. My PC isn't at the tip-top of the line, but it is WAY more than enough to handle this game at Ultra settings and I still experience these same issues on each play session. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I hate Unity.

The base-building could have some better functionality options for rearranging the base. There is no way to store objects (at least none that I noticed) or move objects en masse. So when I wanted to move my farm, I had to pick each plot one at a time and move them over to their new spot. This applies to all objects within the base and it can be infuriating to deal with. Your only other option is to delete all the structures as they currently stand and create new structures in the new spot (you don't get your resources back for scrapping items, by the way). Still, the decorations, buildings, and structures look great and it's cool to watch your base grow slowly over the course of the game.

I don't really have much else to say except that I would recommend playing on Hard over Extra Hard. I always go for the highest difficulty in games, unless the hardest difficulty makes the entire experience annoying and not fun. Extra Hard is annoying and not fun.

Followers dissent, starve, and age much faster on Extra Hard and it makes crusading an irritating endeavor, as you will most likely be notified that so-and-so is dissenting and you have to get back to base pronto or lose a lot of coins and a follower. This difficulty does not allow you to enjoy the combat section of the game without getting yanked back to camp every two minutes. As far as I know, the rewards aren't increased either, so forget Extra Hard and just stick with Hard or the lower difficulties.

7/10

I got exactly what I wanted out of this game. A small scale, cute game with a simple story and plenty of cat hijinks.

This is definitely worth the money and it makes me want more short-form games like this.

A solid time-killer. I can play a round or two while waiting for a call at work. The synergy between different skill trees is fun to play around with and I like the selection of characters, abilities, and weapons to mix-and-match.

I recommend this title to anyone that wants a good pick-up game to have during some downtime.

Favorite combos:

Luna with the Crossbow and Power Shot tree
Lilith with the Batgun and Pulsing Summons
Diamond with the Shotgun and Holy Arts tree
Spark with the SMGs
Abby with anything
