Let me start by saying this, in order to get anywhere in Rogue Legacy, you have to die, and die you will. In Rouge Legacy you control your children in a long line of sometimes afflicted family members who are trying to atone for the past sin of your ancestor. You'll brave a castle filled with a number of powerful bosses in different areas, all ready to send you to a very easily earned death, though you'll have to find them in the castle first. Each time you die, you get to select one of your three children, all of different size, class, gender, and other factors that can affect gameplay.

While this game does require a certain level of skill, in the end, it's a grind, but a fun grind if you can enjoy this sort of thing. Your character grows by leaving all of the gold they've gathered in the castle to their children, which they can spend on stat upgrades, equipment, and special runes that can give you abilities. Be warned though, until a certain upgrade is earned, you'll loose all of your unspent gold when entering the castle again (there's a skill that when a large sum of gold is invested into, you can keep upwards to 50% of your gold when going in the castle).

However, once one of your children decides to brave the castle, they'll find it isn't what their dad or mom went through. The castle randomizes its layout each time you enter, unless you pay to have the layout locked down at the cost of potential rewards (good if you decide to work on fighting a boss). This can definitely keep you interested while you throw your children into harm's way just so their children after them can have a few more hitpoints to survive the next area.

All in all, I've had a lot of fun with this game, and still play a bit on NG+ ever now and then. It may not be worth 15 bucks to a lot of people (though I think it is, but was lucky enough to get it as a gift), but if you see it on sale and want a Rogue-lite Castlevania-esque game, pick it up!
