Been playing for almost 40 hours so far and I only bought this game a few days ago. There seems to be a lot of content that is nice to learn and figure out within the game. Buildings have really nice mechanics and make the game more enjoyable.

If you like exploration games that involve farming resources and crafting items/buildings then you'd most likely enjoy this game.

I decided to replay the game to see how it is for me after having better knowledge of the game. First half will be first review where I played for the first time. Second half will be my second time playing after already knowing most of the game but will be summarised so it isn't as long as first half.

Pros:
Graphics look really good
Music was nice too
Hunting creatures was enjoyable but not always

Cons:
Sailing... probably the worst thing about this game for me. The only reason why it took me 13 hours to complete this game compared to roughly 8 hours as other people is because of the sailing in this game. I spent probably 90% of my time sailing having to go against the wind and my boat literally not moving no matter what I did. Also, it was weird how I couldn't row the boat after I got a sail, which would've helped in situations where I'm against the wind. Also, considering how there's only roughly 5 islands every chapter AND these islands are 99% of the time either tiny islands or just medium islands with not much on them was kinda dull. Along with how frustrating sailing itself was, the random corals and multiple crabs jumping onto your boat from them made it even more frustrating. The corals not so much an issue but having multiple crabs jump onto your boat while you're trying to sail was too much. If you didn't have a wood boat then your boat would be gone within seconds if you didn't instantly stop sailing (even if your boat is going into a rock) and then use the weird target lock system to kill the tiny crabs.

Combat was quite interesting to learn but the target lock system was weird sometimes, especially when fighting multiple enemies. Having to constantly toggle it off and on to switch targets was frustrating. Even if you killed one of the multiple creatures, the system would still stay locked on the same dead creature. Something that always messed me up was the melee attack animations that locked you for a considerable amount of time and ended up being the main reason why I always got hit in combat. They feel extremely long especially after the animation has finished but you're still locked into it for some reason. However, combat got more enjoyable after chapter 3 when I was finally able to get a bow.

I've seen people mention performance being great and I mean I did manage to get 144hz+ with max settings on 99% of occasions but I had to endure the loud noise from my 2080 Ti which was typically louder than any music I was listening to or whatever.

Lack of content, there was only I think 5 variants of islands that I encountered during the whole game. A bamboo forest, a normal forest, a swamp, a basic grassland and a desert. Which most of these just felt the same every time you went to one. There was also only about 8-10 max creatures in the whole game and most of them you encountered regularly so it felt kinda dull in that regard too.

Gathering, found it annoying how each resource on islands was in counts of 1. You'd hit a tree 3 times but you'd only get 1 wood from it. A big tip I got from other sources was to gather as much as possible, which I enjoy doing. However, this was hard to do considering you only get 7 inventory slots when you start the game. And you can only carry 1 bag at a time, which most only add 12 inventory slots with different passives, with one bag adding 18 slots however it increases your stamina drain which isn't good for you.
You can create storage devices and place them on your boat but unless you're around chapter 4/5, most of these only have 3 or 5 slots and you can only place one per each boat piece ( even when there's space for more items to be placed ) , so even in this regard it's hard to store your stuff. Also another issue is that if you try this method and you die, your whole boat gets deleted and so does all your items in the storage on the boat. So not only do you lose your progress, you lose most of your items (even if you chose the story mode option which resets you to the beginning of the chapter). Gathering would be much more enjoyable if there were enough slots for everything.

Food wasn't as bad as for others in my experience but this was mainly because I spent most of the time sailing... Most of my food rotted before I could even use it despite also having the food bag which slowed down the rotting effect on food.

Another weird thing was the blessings which were like mini buffs, only weird thing is that you can only pick ONE out of TWO randomly picked blessings after each chapter and even then, you can only equip one at a time unless you get the blessing that allows you to have two at the same time. But doing so means you lose out on a blessing that might be helpful for you. Some blessings also take 2 blessing slots to enable so you're at a bigger disadvantage if you wanna use one of those. Personally I didn't like this system as I'd much prefer if I could just buy (with the in-game currency) any blessings I think I need or want and just have an unlimited number of them enabled. Most of these were around 500-1000 in-game currency and I still finished the game with about 6000+ currency and no important blessings after finishing the game. Wish you could've just got any blessings you want after each chapter as long as you have enough currency and have the option to somehow upgrade them after each chapter, such as maybe the base damage on the bow if you have it and then upgrade it.

Overall:
I did enjoy the survival and combat aspects of the game but they could be improved. Sailing was terrible for me, Not many variants of islands and creatures, think of Minecraft but with only pigs, cows, zombies and skeletons for mobs and only a forest and desert in terms of terrain. Pretty lacking in content. I wouldn't recommend this game right now considering you can finish this in 8 hours on average. If anything, this game seems more like it's in alpha rather than a full release. Would be looking forward to play again if they improve the cons I mentioned and added more content, as well as increased the sizes of islands so that you don't have to spend all game sailing.

Second half:
Decided to replay the game to see how it is, got to mid chapter 5 (basically end of game) after 8 hours. Game was still quite enjoyable, sailing was much better and easier this time round after learning how to actually sail in the game. Gathering and storage was much easier to handle this time. Food was easy to handle, other reviews seem to complain too much about food. Still annoying how you can only enable 1 blessing (mini buff) at a time unless you get additional blessing slots. Ended up with 4 different blessings but could only use 1. Seems like a waste. Few bugs though, some creatures didn't drop any items randomly. If you kill a creature, sometimes it would just launch into the sky and you'd probably never see it again... Sometimes when killing a creature, you'd get absolutely no arrows back if you used a bow. Can i recommend this game? Maybe. It still seems like a game that's in it's alpha stages with the bugs and lack of content. You can finish this game on average in 8 hours despite the devs saying there is 40 hours of content. I don't think the game is currently worth the price but it's still a decent game that I enjoyed. Hopefully the devs listen to players and make the game better.
