GG, abused lag glitch and became invincible, then killed the final boss, murdered the president, and shot a bunch of FBI agents. What a great use of ten bucks. The rest of the game, however, is considerably better.

The Castle Doctrine is a highly original video game filled with challenges for even the best chess players. The gameplay is split between two tasks: building defenses to protect your vault and your family, and raiding your neighbors' houses for money and tools. The layers of planning that a good home defense require are extensive, and numerous strategies exist for both creating and overcoming creative traps.
The economy of the game is intelligently designed- players begin with enough money to build basic traps and buy tools for raiding. The tools, in essence, are used for destroying traps- and the more expensive the tool, the better the traps it can break. Balancing your funds between upgrading your own security and breaking into others' houses is a challenge.
The tricky part comes when you have to test your defenses. Any defense you build must let someone (hypothetically) reach your vault without any tools. (It should be noted that it does not have to be possible to reach the family unarmed, so as long as there are no traps in their path, one could line the hallway to one's family with pit bulls.) Unfortunately, it is possible for someone's house to become impregnable when it is raided- mobile creatures (such as pit bulls) could end up in positions that guarantee that no one else gets through to the vault. In addition, a vault that has been raided becomes empty, and reaching it no longer grants the raider an escape. This is part of the risk inherent in robbery though: it's always possible that someone else has screwed things up for you to get their own share of the loot.
There is one major flaw in the game, however. When testing your own security to prove it can be breached, accidentally triggering a deadly trap kills you, forcing you to start over. You can test these traps with various devices that indicate electric current without harming you, but it can be a pain when you have to start fresh because of a small mistake in building your own house. This part of the game seems unnecessary, as it only punishes players who make dumb mistakes designing their defenses, and the punishment is death.
All things considered, The Castle Doctrine is a great game if you want a fun, challenging robbery sim that lets you play both sides.
