Me and the Wife... Totally enjoyed it, thought it would be something she wouldn't enjoy as much because of some of the platforming, but I only needed to help with two small segments.

Otherwise the many play styles was interesting. Would recommend to play with your partner if they can manage the different challenges. We didn't change any game settings and played it vanilla.

We completed it in about 16 hours, the local split screen worked great on the PC tv.

A silly rogue-lite about a frog doing some farming business. Requires very little attention and just fun to play casually.
It runs great on the Deck!

Short and sweet. Not overly hard, but satisfying decent 16-bit style game.

Still an amazing game... just sad that it had so many tie ins to AWS, that it left it unable to function after AWS discontinued their SPARK platform.

Edit: Controls and general fixes make the game much more playable. there are still some minor play through gameplay stops, but i managed to completing a play through.

controls... fix them please! I'm enjoying the game art, sounds and story, but lord the controls aren't tight. I get lots of double inputs with all my pcs and wired/wireless controllers, so it's not on my end... neat game, just difficult due to terrible input issues.

Simple, non-combative game to kill time, enjoy the story, ideas, characters... very good at offering insight to what I did growing up in the 80s and 90s. I always dreamed to develop, create, act and wonder similar thoughts. I also did a lot of similar things with friends and created imagination... this is just without all of the setup and work to enjoy and remember those days.

Completed on Steam Deck - 9/10 - Proton GE 8-10, 1TB SSD, Default visual settings
Completed on Windows PC - Disable Nvidia Reflex! Med/High 3440x1440 3060S 8GB

The experience was as expected, visual details would have been on par with PS3, but considering the Steam Deck, it was an amazing experience. Controls were adapted to DualSense features for the Deck Controls, but Xbox Controls weren't terrible either in Docked Mode.

Used Proton GE8-8 and GE8-10, Valve Experimental Proton was OK, but I got better performance with GE versions.

Running Beta Firmware/Software on my Deck. Did not adjust TDP or other performance settings.

Avg FPS was 32FPS, Lows of 9 FPS during dimensional loading screens. It was extemely playable with FSR turned on and all the default display settings from the game.

Used the following Startup options as recommended by ProtonDB: (Forces DX11 and disables DirectStorage)
PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dstorage=d,dstoragecore=d" VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr11 gamemoderun %command%

There was only about 4-5 dimensional loading that took longer than 5s and no more than 10s.

I'll update my review on my Desktop PC later... but I'm satisfied with the Steam Deck play-through.

@Sony - Release some more titles to the PC, you can see people are interested, even us Linux Players. We really enjoy the releases.

Updated - Windows PC Settings
Windows 10 22H2 Updated July 23. Nvidia 3060S with July Drivers. AMD 5600X, No overclocks. 16GB RAM. I tried on both 2.5 SATA SSD and M.2 NVMe, very little loading difference.
Disable Nvidia Reflex, it's terribly implemented and terrible in general. DLSS worked fine, but I found FSR 2.0 worked better than DLSS. Played on an Ultrawide 3440x1440 at Med/High Details, Free-Sync 100Hz display averaged about 80FPS, lows of 29 during some of the last battle when there was 50+ nefarious goons on the screen, otherwise it was stable at 80+ FPS. No loading times during the dimensional sequences compared to a Steam Deck, but again, the way they implemented the loading screens I couldn't tell that wasn't normal on the Steam Deck.

I've played for about 5 hours in the alpha/beta phases.
About 2 hours into the launch release.

I provided some feedback regarding sound and controls that don't appear to have been fixed or resolved since reporting it and between launch. The controls aren't nearly as tight for the time they've been developing it since crowdfunding. I hope there are some post updates and considerations from the larger audience since the launch date.

The animations have improved and the over-all voice acting is better. The story struggles a bit and the opening intro is a bit jarring and quick to understand the primary cast of characters.

I really want to enjoy the game, but it doesn't cut it on mechanics and controls that are more polished in similar indie titles with similar studio sizes. Attack controls are sloppy or unresponsive. Move controls lack finesse. Some sound effects could use softening, like those in breaking objects; repetitive sounds like the grunting in jumping and attacking could be less frequent or more varied. A simple woosh or jump sound could replace some of the grunts. I enjoyed playing it better without the soundtrack and sound effects.

@Petoons Studio, we all want to enjoy the game, but the lack of community input based on your crowdfunding campaign has shown you're not taking some constructive criticism. Ultimately it's your game, but we all want to help make it as fun and enjoyable as possible. I want to replace this review with a positive one, but I haven't seen any major game improvements (besides visuals and sound) since the backer's updates and betas.

cult cult cult Cult CULT! - Dan Cummings (Time Suck)

Interesting, cute, fun and multi-genre game. Beyond what most might think is taboo, "Try it before you deny it!"

It's a good time waster and enjoyment of the decisions you make in the game. Great devils advocate style of decisions.

I recommend this for some of the old-school NES players. It will be hit or miss for the youth or less skilled players.

Starting this game was more or less like the inspiration you got from Zelda on NES. Without reading through the manual back then, the few pages you collect along the way make it fun to discover new things that you haven't already tried. Like Zelda, this game, beyond getting the sword, allows you to go places that might not be appropriate at the time. But that's the complete sense of open exploration! (You can even skip getting the sword like in Zelda) Considering that, you can get deep into some areas without the required skills, items, and even health. This is how I managed to learn strategic routes in Zelda and similar games growing up.

While I don't like all the characteristics of the controls and feel, it's not a button masher like you'd expect from NES/Master players. It requires a bit more thought in your actions than you'd want for those that are trigger happy. But I managed to adapt, even at my age.

I've been playing the game since it first showed up at PAX and the several Demos. I'm pretty happy with the looks, sounds (PoweredUp Audio did a fantastic job), feel, and difficulty. Not a tremendous amount has changed from the difficulty or controls of the Demos. It's as I expected to see in the final release.

Is this game Souls-like? Maybe? It's not a Zelda-Clone; the controls, AI, mechanics fit the engine of most modern PC/Console games. But it tries to carry the style of the Zelda essence. I wouldn't feel defeated by the enemies as there are attack styles and items to make the challenges more manageable but not impossible to defeat them! You can indeed be like the insane players in Breath of the Wild and go all out with just a branch and no armor and beat the game. However, it's not required. This game goes at the pace you want to put in, spend several weeks just a couple hours a day, or marathon it.

But, this game carries a lot of the spirit of exploring, trial and error, as well as the puzzle and world challenges like its inspiration that it was derived from.

If you made it this far, and you're on the fence. Don't be intimidated by those that say it's too hard or too much like Souls. Just treat it like an adventure with a slight learning curve, nothing that can't be overcome even if you're a casual player. This is coming from someone that grew up with Atari/C64/Nintendo/MasterSystem. So I'm used to dying and learning from the challenge and mistakes; it's not punishing like Souls-like games are.
