Review Showcase
Okay.
Actual, honest, review.

For starters, as someone who unfortunately only owns Rebirth and Afterbirth, the game is totally great. absolutely amazing. The music is wonderful and I cannot get the basement theme out of my head. I played probably a good 100 hours in Rebirth, and a good 20 in AB. I do play on Mac, so I cannot get Repentance; though I do play it remotely (thanks steam!!). Runs great in remote play.

Okay. Enough bias, real stuff now. If you're looking to buy the game for the first time; do it, like literally buy it right now if you can. It's a genuinely pretty good game, even just Rebirth. Rebirth has a good chunk of content; just doing all completions on one character if you're up for a challenge, or just testing around and getting unlocks. The game is a total blast.

Second, the lore. The games lore is absolutely wild. No spoilers for people who for some reason haven't played this game yet, but it is a rollercoaster. The (Repentance) ending is actually very upbeat until you realize/remember Isaac's fate. If you aren't one for getting unlocks and playing hundreds of hours of gameplay, i'd recommend 2 Left Thumb's video on said TBOI lore: roughly an hour long. Even if you have seen all the lore, still recommend the video. Watched it after completing most endings and already knowing the lore, and they still said some stuff I didn't know. Pretty cool video.

Next, of course, gameplay. Ohhhhh, gameplay. Rebirth itself has tons of gameplay, even without the lore. Pretty good amount of characters (and Maggie); each with their own niche. For example, Isaac, the starting character, starts out with pretty middle-ground stats. He's the beginners choice, and the beginner himself. Nothing special about him too much, but that means that theres not really any downsides to Isaac. He's pretty universal. Another iconic character is Azazel, they can fly by default, and instead of shooting tears they mix it up with an altered Brimstone, a short-range, rough, oversized laser that deals continuous damage. The downside to Azazel is that the Brimstone has charge, and the range of the brimstone. Plus, in Rebirth and Afterbirth, alot of items don't synergize. One of the saddest references is Mom's Knife, as it just totally gets rid of Brimstone and all tears in Rebirth and AB. Mom's Knife in AB+ has some synergies, but they added alot in Repentance.

Finally, the music. The. Music. It is phenomenal. Rebirth-AB+ have a soundtrack composed by Ridiculon, which is all around a great soundtrack; ~70 songs for TBOI. Though, no offense to Ridiculon, the Antibirth/Repentance Soundtrack is an absolute bop. Huge props to Mudeth for making the soundtrack. They took what was already great and somehow made it better. Though both soundtracks have their fair share of great songs. Also the arcade theme is the best OST hands down, give it a listen.

Alright, enough of me. Sorry for making this so long. I'll probably make another one of these sometime in the future, maybe at 500 hours played lol. Unfortunately I do not own AB+ for myself, and I play on Mac so I cannot purchase Repentance. I know alot about both DLC's though. Definitely recommend buying the game, my favorite game for sure.
