Longtime series fan here - this recaptures the magic of playing the first STALKER game right when it came out in 2006, "anomalies" and all. If you don't mind a bit of jank and rough edges in your hand-crafted environmental storytelling masterpieces, you need to play this ASAP. Extra kudos to the dev team for pulling this game off during a wholeass War.

PS for the LOVE OF GOD use the Ukrainian voiceovers with English subtitles. The English voice acting is so atrocious that it's insulting. I don't speak Ukrainian at all but it's a night-and-day difference to be immersed into the game's world / hear voice actors that actually Act

The vast majority of the bugs are ironed out, and the game is extremely fun and immersive. I was hyped for YEARS as a turbo-geek of cyberpunk literature and all of the art and music it's inspired; but despite my bias, I can still say this is an "8/10" damn fun game that's odd and janky enough to not be for everyone. I have pretty high-end hardware and the game runs like a dream at 4k; enabling ray tracing drops it to an average of 45 FPS, but there really isn't a huge difference when it's turned off, which for me is worth the solid 60 frames.

Buy it when it drops down to half price or less, and you'll have a great time. It feels a LOT like Fallout New Vegas, both for better and for worse.

Even if you are a veteran of Dark Souls and Bloodborne, this game is a whole other beast.

Sekiro is brutally, eye-gougingly difficult right from the start, and without the freedom of weapon choice that lets you experiment with different playstyles in From's other games. You either Git Gud or Git Depressed; and if you

If you're the right kind of stubborn hyper-focused sadomasochist, you need to play this Yesterday. Unlike Bloodborne or Dark Souls, there isn't really any point where "it all clicks" and things become easier; the timing-obsessed nature of the combat means EVERY fight is Simon Says Thunderdome, and especially unlike Bloodborne, there's rarely an option to grind or cheese your way out of a tight spot.

Sekiro gets a big fat 9/10 from me, and absolutely is *the* GOTY for 2019; but I'm more likely to warn a friend NOT to try it at all than I am to tell someone to pick it up and dive in. It's that brutal, and that good at it.

I am kicking myself for not playing this sooner - It's one of the most immersive games I've ever played, and it has ridiculously good writing throughout its main quest. They didn't get the feel of Hong Kong perfect, but it feels so much like a city in mainland China that I would be craving XO Sauce and Hong Shao Rou by the end of longer playthroughs.

This game's plot is one big fat love letter to Hong Kong action movies, and if you're a fan of that genre, you need dis.

+Solid driving mechanics
+FANTASTIC graphics, tons of options
+ Extremely detailed open world, down to phone booth catalogues and convenience store snacks
+ (nearly) All-Asian cast, including some American and Hong Kong superstars, is pretty damn good (usually)
+ Most main quests are immersive, deep, and riveting, when they're not balls-out corny fun

- (nearly) All-English dialogue, including and especially from Chinese actors, can sound corny at times. Game would be 100x better with an all-Cantonese audio dub!!!
- No way to add custom radio music, and 1/2 of the stations are kind of lame
- A few side quests, especially the ones around Dr. Tang, are painfully stupid

9/10

I only bought this game two weeks ago, but it has utterly absorbed me - I only have a few optional side-bosses left to defeat, and have exhausted every nook and cranny of its INSANELY HUGE world.

Take the atmosphere, lore depth, difficulty, and art direction of Dark Souls 1, mix it with the airtight controls and exploration of Super Metroid, and tie it up with a little bow of "everything is adorable cartoon bugs".

Seriously though, this is hands-down the best indie game I've ever played (only 5 developers!!), and my favorite of 2017 by a long shot. If you're a fan of metroidvanias or dark souls, stop reading this and smash that "add to cart" button as fast as you can.

The one and only downside is that it has one very late level that will make you REEEE out loud from how stupidly f***ing difficult it is - it's technically optional, but it's essential if you want to unlock the best/real ending of the game.
