Matchmaker puts you in a server you left repeatedly.
Servers take a huge ♥♥♥♥ every day with 99% packet loss with no explanation making it literally unplayable.
New devs but seems like they haven't fixed a damn thing.
10/10 would not recommend in this state. It's honestly embarassing that there are bugs from 2018 that still exist.

Downloaded it today (5/31/25) and died from an AI that wasn't looking at me and the caches were glitched to not be destroyable without planting again.

Stop reading negative reviews and buy the game already.

They only get away with this because the modders have no access to source code or good modding tools yet.

I only even have this because I got it with the deluxe edition that a Youtube sub gifted me.

Despite all of my efforts, I'm still incapable of launching the game without crashing either at main menu or after starting a game.

Originally released on 15 June 2004, this is one of the few FPS games that ever did firing from vehicles, LCACs, and loading vehicles into helicopters without needing expensive DLC. Conversion and realism mods have kept the online for this game alive. It was one of the few older games not affected by the GameSpy shutdown so there are a LOT of servers available. I have many fond memories from my childhood playing this in massive 150 player servers. Personal servers are limited to 64 now but in a coop mission it's not relevant. PvP has a fairly large community but as I haven't played the PvP since before I got Steam I couldn't tell you about the balance. The community seems to be very cooperative and relaxed, something uncommon in today's 12yo ran FPS games.

For $20 you might find it a bit expensive if you don't enjoy it, but if you do like I did, you will end up playing it quite a bit. Were it not for Arma and Civ consuming my life I would play this much more.

Game is dead af and has been for years. Played for hours yesterday, a Sunday, and the total online players wasn't even double digits between the 3 server that had players. Waste your money on something else.

Played with the "We the People" mod, the game tickles every autistic fantasy I have for the genre. With a new map generator, 99 goods, dozens more units (mostly ships and slaves), and numerous civilization and leader combos, there is a near endless amount of replayability that keeps me entertained for far longer than vanilla.
