In short, despite its age and poor graphics by today's standards, there is a sense of accomplishment and community you get from Everquest that is not present in more modern games.

The real sense of a living, breathing world that you're just a part of has been given up for the "amusement park" model and probably isn't coming back anytime soon.

So I recommend everyone tries this game at least once. Treat it like D&D and ignore the graphics and you might just find a wonderful experience.
