Mount & Blade, though rough, is still a really fun game to play. It's one of the few games where you feel like a medieval lord with command of an army and grand-scale fights can be tipped in your side's favor if you have the skill. It is unforgiving, so I suggest playing with some easier settings until you get the hang of it. If you like it, you can get Warband and its DLC, Napoleonic Wars, to experience multiplayer.
