Greatest open world game ever. Some complain about the "slow pace" but I like that. Allows you to think of your next move. This game is the most immersive old West, late 19th century game I've seen. Transport you back in time, even if it's a fictional America.

I can't take this game seriously. This game's rating for each team are so jacked. At least for the college teams. Penn State has a rating of 80 while someone like South Carolina is rated 89!? And SC wins the simulations of 1000 games 903 to 97 times against PSU!? Meanwhile a lower team like Wyoming is rated 89 and beats PSU 876-124 in 1000 simulations. GTFOH. I haven't even tried the NFL. When I simulate the Eagles vs Penn State, PSU wins 673-327. LOL I don't get this game.

You can tell the ones who have never done tabletop wargaming and the ones who have. People who have played Total War games then come here thinking it's gonna be the same are in for a rude awakening. Then they've got the nerve to give it a bad review!
This game as a tabletop game was known as De Bellis Antiquitatis. I played that game as a high schooler over 30 years ago and played the online version dbaol.com before the website/game went defunct. Richard Bodley Scott created the DBA rules and transferred all that over to the Field of Glory 2 franchise. I don't think every army made it over specifically the Aztecs, Mayans, Chinese armies, etc but the bulk did.
I find the mechanics of the game a lot more free flowing than it was on DBA online but I kinda missed that tabletop feel. Some things don't make sense if you are a Total War person like how cavalry doesn't run over archers etc, terrain is a negative instead of a positive but the gameplay is quite fun nonetheless. If you enjoyed tabletop wargaming, then you'll love this. My favorite part is fighting the ancients vs the medievals.

Too confusing and not suitable for my style of play. I play historical leagues with mult-era leagues. I can't even set up the league properly!

As someone who did tabletop wargaming with DBA back in high school (early 90's), this whole series is basically DBA brought to online gaming. The creator of DBA, Richard Bodley Scott is the creator of this series and he's done a great job bringing the tabletop game to online. I used to play dbaol.com back in the day and missed it. There's some Asian armies missing from the original list, but I bet they'll put out another DLC with them in it.

Interesting game but the mechanics are horrible. The whole thing of waiting for the courier is a pain. Also, if you don't get your units right, they'll be standing backwards and the arrows will have units run around in circles until their final orders. Meanwhile, you're getting shot up by the enemy and losing units. The path finding is ridiculous.
Also, not sure if there's a sandbox campaign but it plays out according to history, which could be fun, but when you're getting out recruited by the other side, it makes for a tough campaign. There's no good guides on how to use your troops or even the campaign map movements. Very unintuitive. This really can be a fun game but when you can't cancel orders right away or when the unit can't think on it's own and has to wait for the courier to show up, it's frustrating. But I guess that's how it happened in real life.

Somewhat clunky settings and the popcorn guy is driving me nuts. But ok as an alternative to OOTP.

Good game but dated. I think this was the last of the MLB2K series.

You can come up with various leagues matching different eras. It's kinda like Stratomatic where there's no fancy graphics and it's dice based. It's not intuitive but the developer responds on the forums. The forums aren't very lively as noone has posted in months but if you had a problem, the developer would respond. It takes a minute to figure out how to set things up but I got so tired of OOTP's ridiculous 3-D animations. I just wanted a straight sim and this game gives that to you. I think my biggest beef with the game is the way pitchers are handled. It's based on how many batters he faces, instead of pitch count. Like if he can only face 23 batters per game and he hits that mark in the 5th inning...welp, then his quality starts going downhill no matter how many pitches he's thrown. Pitch count needs to replace that system and have a way to see how your pitcher is doing and stead of OK and TIRED as the only reference.
