I'm not a huge transformers fan and even I can tell this game was made by people who really wanted to make a good game. It's not just about the brand here, it's a genuinely good game with awesome singleplayer, co-op, and multiplayer versus gameplay.

9/10, especially fun if you get a friend to play with you

EDIT: Wow, that was a lot longer than I was expecting it to be, haha. Added a TLDR at the bottom.

This game is hands down the best roguelike game I've ever played.

The developers claim single player is the intended play mode but multiplayer is where this game really shines. You can select one of three difficulty levels for your playthrough, but easy mode won't save progress. The gameplay is easy to learn but difficult to master, every character has a unique skillset and every item will give you some sort of bonus and learning how to synergize your skill and item usage is necessary to completing your playthrough because the enemies will grow progressively stronger as time goes on while your growth depends on how much experience you're earning. It's entirely possible to lose because you took too long to move to the next level where you'd earn experience faster, making quick strategic execution a vital part of anyone's playthrough. There are three distinct stages of a risk of rain playthrough:

Early game: You scavenge for loot, escape the hostiles, pray that you don't get cornered, and nourish yourself with your own tears. You will die.

Mid game: If this is the one-out-of-every-twenty playthroughs where you get lucky enough to get past the second level, you'll probably have enough items to begin developing some sort of strategy that helps you kill stuff more gooder. Maybe you'll have a fleet of drones one-shotting the weak flying enemies and supporting you against the stronger ones, or an item combo like specs+scythe that allows you to heal from doing damage. Bosses will also begin spawning randomly and dropping items each time they die.

Late game: In ROR you have the option to return to previous levels, but on the difficulty you're already at, and you can do it indefinitely. If you choose to do so then you've chosen to become a god of death, demolishing anything in your path. Elite bosses spawn like basic enemies and items litter the ground. Most of them are worth nothing because you already have like thirty of them but occasionally you'll find an awesome rare or unique item. The late game seems like it would be boring and monotonous at first, but returning to where you began and completely obliterating the beasts that once hunted you is anything but.

Now onto more mechanics of the game.

Replay value: High scores, unlockables items, unlockable characters, stats, and lore give you plenty of reasons to keep coming back. As if that wasn't enough ROR has a system called Artifacts that allows you to set rules when you begin your playthrough so that even the gameplay itself will be unique. My personal favorites are a combination of three:
- Honor: Spawns every enemy as an elite (has higher health and damage and one of four special effects that make them more powerful)
- Glass: Deal 500% damage, have 10% health
- Sacrifice: items drop randomly from monsters instead of from chests
There are ten in total, each with their own unique effect. There are also twelve completely unique characters that all have their own different skills and play style. You start with one and unlock others as you play.

Multiplayer: This is how you play the game for real. No noobs allowed. Friendships will be tested, broken, remade, and tested again. Every human emotion packed into an hour-long episode of shock, relief, and a lot of "one more go"s. It's awesome in a way that no other game is.

Enemies: Every enemy is unique in a way that requires you to rethink your strategy for every encounter and have multiple backup strategies incase things go awry. Combinations of enemy types all stacked against you will take your options away faster than you can even remember what your options are, forcing you to develop new strategies on the spot and discover new ways to use your items and skills. Every single playthrough is unique in the way the enemies are presented and the challenges you're faced with. Your items provide you with strategies but they're all situational so even if you have the most awesome build you've ever had you can still get destroyed by a combination of enemies that you haven't encountered before. This forces you to move slowly to preserve your playthrough, but at the same time the clock is ticking, threatening your playthrough with increasingly powerful enemies, and creating a unique tension that I've never seen in another game.

TL;DR: Fast-paced roguelike platformer that's best with friends. End the game soon and say you beat it or drag it on and destroy everything with hundreds of items. Uniquely fun and has many opposing mechanics that create tension and must be balanced as you play through your playthrough, and there are plenty of reasons to play it over and over.

Overall 9.5/10 - I wish they'd give QA a bit more attention, it's pretty standard for new updates to have a few bugs.

Is it worth it? If I had to pay $60 it would be worth it. It's that good.

If you like minecraft adventure maps, lovecraft, and the roguelite genre then you'll love Eldritch.

Pros:
- Exciting gameplay with high replay value
- Randomly generated with at least six different tilesets and themes
- In addition to items there are accessories and magics that serve as passive and alternative active abilities

Cons:
- Poor item variety. You've got two throwables, two guns, two food items, two questionably healthy food items, two melee items, and two mobility items.
- Poor tutorial. Doesn't bother to explain how the map works or what the Asylum is.

Overall 8/10. The gameplay as a roguelite allows it to overcome the poor item variety and the lack of a tutorial is only a temporary handicap. It's pretty great.

Great game for the price.

Good:
- Fast, so fast
- Easy to tell what platforms will do
- Very challenging

Bad:
- The random map generation uses specific sequences and patches them all together, so it's not random. That's not bad, but a lot of the sequences are designed in such a way that there's absolutely no way you can know what's about to appear unless you've run through it before.
- Buttons sometimes register at the wrong time
- The control scheme of pressing L/R to jump left/right and then holding it to stay up while you move forward is very confusing and takes a lot of getting used to.
- Each level has a gimmick in the way that it spawns in the new platforms, and sometimes that gimmick makes it unduely difficult to tell where a platform actually is
- The sequences are clearly designed with low speed in mind, so as you gain speed more and more of them will become impossible. Most of this only happens after you've reached 100% and completed the level, but there's a couple in a couple levels that will end your game before you reach 100%.

As a fan of runners I was able to overlook the bad and have a decent amount of fun with it. It's dirt cheap, too, so I'm going to recommend it.

7/10 - It's fun but poor controls and map design hold it back.
