When Publishers Just Want A Quick Buck...
I like the believe that at this point in time game Developers and Publishers just... get the gaming Community and Market. Not that there is a whole lot to get, but mostly in this day and age Developers need to give each one of their titles the respect they deserve... when asking ten whole dollars up front.

Litil Divil, has been neglected, and it shows in the response that the community has had on Steam toward this game. It's beyond rough, it is sad.

Pros
  • Nice classic animations and sounds
  • Moderately stable build of DOSBox, Alt+Tabbing out of game works properly
  • Multiple gameplay elements all strewn together that function properly, even if they lack explanation

Cons
  • The introduction movie was not included in the game
  • There is a lack of menus in game unless you wish to Save (Which resets current progress and gold in the area, and only keeps your map data) or Exit.
  • Higher resolution options are absent, unlike other Gremlin Games released for DOS which have added resolution options
  • The game manual that can be accessed through the Library tab in Steam is short, skimpy, and lacks detailed information about major aspects of the game (Such as the shop, object descriptions, and hints)

At a $10 price point you are asking a lot for a game that runs through a DOS Emulator, not that DOSBox is a terrible emulator, but it just goes to show how much they are asking for a product that hasn't been touched or altered one bit since its initial release. Gremlin Interactive was a group of very talented individuals who understood how to cram so much personality into a game it was astounding, but so see KISS/Funbox Ltd. simply throw this ancient game onto Steam and ask full price without updating it or giving any support is unacceptable.

Its a shame, really. I am a big fan of Realms of the Haunting (Another game by Gremlin), even though it was the community who released updated controls to make it fully playable on all systems. This game, is asking WAY TOO MUCH for WAY TOO LITTLE .

I wont trash on the bad gameplay because its obvious through other reviews how dated it is, but my real complaints mainly deal with the asking price compared to product worth.

0/10 IF the asking price for this was around 99cents, I can understand a bit of justification of the price. I recieved this game for free online, as most people did. I would have NEVER paid anything over 99 cents for this game. Period.

Sneak, or Blast, or Ambush, or Gun down muscle head soldiers or alien invaders...
Notice that word: "Or", more on that later. Enjoy my reivew of Crysis 2

Story
~Prophet did what he could, after contracting the virus he entrusts the survival of mankind with you, by giving you the Nano Suit... just before he takes his own life.

Sounds simple right? Well it pretty much is, and even though the game throws a few twists at you, it never feels like it is hard to grasp.

You are entrusted with saving New York from an alien threat, and it becomes apparent how important you really are when you come face to face with the Ceph, who pose a pretty large threat if you try taking them down with normal means. They put up quite a fight, even for a fully suited super tech equipted Marine. Through video instructions you are able to see just how quickly the Ceph are taking over and pose a threat to the entire country if you do not act quickly.

Gameplay
~Remember all of those Ors at the top of the review? Those options are what make Crysis 2 such a wonderful game to play.

The game loads sections of the map at a time, unlike the first game, and tasks you with taking-out enemies (Or sneaking past them if you can) to complete objectives. When given these options and the ability to scan the area for weapons and threats, you have all the options in the world to beat each section however you see fit!

The Nano Suit boasts 3 main powers that can activated or deactivated at will:
-Sleath Mode (Sneaky)
-Armor Mode (Tanky)
-Power Mode (Stabalize/Jump/Sprint)
-and Tactical Mode (...Tactical)

Pick one, or pick them all, and enjoy ripping enemies to shreds by means you chose!

Presentation

The game is beautiful.
Look at screen shots.
I dont even need to write anything here.

Final Thoughts

Crysis does so much right, I am a huge sucker for choice in games, and an even BIGGER sucker for stealth in games done right.

Each mode you can activate feels balanced and you have to adapt yourself to each one. Stealth is of course my favorite, and I would always do my best to get assassination kills with silenced weapons because when you expose yourself, some enemies will call for backup.

+Great Musical Score that hit all the right notes when it needed to
+Wonderful Pacing: You always felt like you were accomplishing something
+Superb Gameplay complimented by unique weapons and gadgets
+Tactics encouraged!

+/- Graphical glitches on Ceph were farely common when executing.

-Character dialogue was cheesy...very very cheesy

9/10
Loved it

Sonic Adventure 2 does so many things right, but to truely enjoy the game...you have to pull through some sections that you will either LOVE or HATE. Details below

I played through this game as a kid on my Gamecube ages ago, and as a young child i thoroughly enjoyed the game. The story felt epic and not too childish, and the gameplay was fun. But even as a kid I never liked the Shooting sections.

(I recommend playing this game with a Gamepad. I use this a reference when I use the terms "A", "B", and such. I am talking about a Gamepad)

Story
SA:2s story is divided into 3 parts, Hero, Dark, and Last
Each story has 3 character each with their own play Style.
  • Sonic and Shadow have speed sections (The most fun out of the three)
  • Knuckles and Rouge have Gem Hunting Sections (Not as fun, but not bad)
  • Tails and Eggman have shooting sections (Definately the most annoying and boring sections)
I will cover each section more closely further down under Gameplay
Hero:
Continuing where Sonic Adventure 1 left off, Sonic escapes custody of the Military (CITY ESCAPE SONG PLAYS HERE), and encounters Shadow. Shadow Sends Sonic back into Military Custody and its up to Tails to break him free. Knuckles is off on his own for a majority of the game, collecting Master Emerald Pieces (Per Usual), which takes him to different parts of the map each with their own theme (I will touch on this later on)

After Sonic and Tails reunite, a series of unimportant events occur, blah blah blah, and Sonic has to go to space to destroy a Super Weapon. And go figure, the weapon is run off of the power of the Chaos Emeralds.

Dark:
Eggman is infiltrating a military Top Secret base to uncover an "Ultimate Weapon", which he discovers is Shadow the Hedgehog. Shadow talks about a mission he must fullfill, and commands the Dr. around so he give the Dr. the "True Ultimate Weapon". Shadow and Dr. Eggman team up with Rouge to recover Chaos Emeralds to power the Ultimate Weapon, the world is about to blow up, end story.

After both campaigns are beaten, there is a secret story.

Last:
The weapon turns out to not be a cannon but a super mutant bio weapon to consume the entire world. These sections of the game combine every character in a marathon esque style. Having you activate switches and avoid dangerous lava on a time limit. This section is actually quite fun and retains a sense of peril and epicness up until the end, when Sonic and Shadow both turn into their super forms to take out the weapon in space. As a child this just made me soooo excited. And even today after replaying the game I found it still had a charm to it.

Gameplay
Speed sections
Speed sections have you running around at the speed of sound, got places to go have to follow my rainbow.
These parts of the game make everything worth while. Speed sections are fun, fair, and varied.
The only complaints I have are in the Shadow campaign, the Forest level has many glitches that it easy to die for no reason, but otherwise, I love these parts of the game.

Gem Hunting sections
Back in the day, having varied gameplay in your game was seen as innovative. Nowadays, going from a speedy high-octane part of the game to a slow paced "Hot and Cold Meter" style of hunting for gems is seen as a sin. If you can forgive this games age and its willingness to push these sections of the game on you then will enjoy the experience as a whole, way more...otherwise these sections of the game are hated by most of the community.

As Knuckles/Rouge, you are placed into a map with three emerald boxes on the bottom of your screen. You are challenged with exploring the area waiting for one of the gems to flash Green (Close), Yellow (Closer), or Red (Very Close) to find the pieces of the Master Emerald. Scattered throughout the levels are hint Robots, that will give you three hints as to the whereabouts of the hidden pieces.

Shooting sections
Hold down A, move your cursor around to lock onto enemies, and release to kill them all.

This is how you kill enemies in these levels of the game. Although you CAN run up to badies and bash them (Which is a stupid idea), and you CAN manually aim at them (Easier said then done), holding down your A button and moving your laser around is the best way to kill enemies. And as far as i am concerned, it is the only way.

Here is where the problem lies: For 90% of the level, you holding down A, which causes a high pitched *BEEEEEEEEEEEE{* sound to play non stop as long as you are holding down A. Sure the laser dies after a few seconds, but you can (AND SHOULD), hold down A again right after, just in case there are enemies off screen you dont see because the camera is trashy on these levels. Or who knows what, but holding down A gets SO ANNOYING, but is needed.

Like I stated above, the camera is trash in a mojority of these levels, and yet they require platforming on certain parts. Yuck. Levels like the Egypt and Space level as Eggman have certain angles that mess with your depth perception.
I do not enjoy these levels in the slightest.

Chao Garden
SA:2 features a small side area of the game where you raise a Chao by giving it Power Core-ish bits you find when killing enemies, and animals. You can spend your rings in a Black market area to feed fruit or give gifts to your Chao. Each chao can be named and used to play mini-games, such as racing and fighting (But you have to pay to fight).
Show your Chao enough love, and you unlock a Chao Heaven!
Abuse your Chao and you can unlock Chao Hell...which is much cooler...

This little addition makes the game more enjoyable, and when you replay missions you are achieving something in itself when your return to your garden to upgrade your Chao.

Overall
The game is dated, we can all see that, so some courtesy is due.

  • The story is mediocre, but fleshed out for a sonic game. You wont find a better story in any other Sonic game, even if it is very cheesy.
  • Each portion of the game has a nice theme
~(The first Sonic Level is city themed, so the first Shadow level is City themed)
~(The last Sonic/Tails/Knuckles Level is Space Themed, so the last Shadow/Rouge/Eggman level is space themed)
Themes add a nice feel in making portions of the game feel progressive and unique
  • The graphics are good...for its time. No HD Texture/Model update was put into the game other than allowing you to run the game in High Definition Screen Resolutions.
  • Speed sections make the game fun, while the other sections are passable at best.
  • Chao raising is a great distraction
  • Best Sonic Game in my opinion...tell me i am wrong
+Decent Story...for a Sonic Game
+Fun Gameplay
+Chao Garden
+Good port
+Bosses are fun

-Hunting Levels can be boring.
-Shooting Levels are very bad.

8/10: Dated, old, but still worth playing

Hotline Miami is no doubt fun, the fun starts to fade after not too long...

If you have not played Hotline Miami 1 yet, play that first, as the difficulty curve continues off of the first game. (Levels are harder than the first game) This is great, but after a period of time the level design seems to fall flat during act 3 forward. I will get to that in a bit...

Pros:
-More instances of forcing the player to re-learn how to play different characters
-Each new character feels fresh and challenging, making me WANT to try them out even though I know that I am better with another mask available
-Amazing Music (God bless you Perturbator)
-Longer Story
-Varied Combat
(The Detective Scenes require you to not kill anyone. Which means no guns, and disarming guns adds to your combo) -

Cons:
-Color Palette and Enemy Colors collide during certain missions, leading to unfair deaths
-Good(Act 1-2, Final Act) -> Horrid(Act 3 - ~) Level Design (This could be easily fixed if they removed some Bullet-Only Enemies, or not forcing the player to use Baiting to take one enemy out at a time)
-Levels allow choke point exploits way too often
-The Above two points really lower the overall flow of levels. (Combos past a certain point in a level feel impossible due to enemy placements)
- The Trigger Lock on ignores the person who you are aiming at 90% of the time and decides to lock onto an enemy on the other side of the wall so you cant Trigger-Bumper-Tap (Especially frusterating in Scene 11)
-Story lacks plot arc, story takes a front seat in this installment yet doesn't give the player ANY sense of forward momentum and arcing events.Things just, happen, and you have no sense of denouement, cost/effect of your actions, and impending climax (I dont feel this way about the intermission acts, those I thoroughly enjoyed)

Thoughts/Elaboration
All in all, this game feels pretty sloppy. It doesn't do the first game a whole lot of justice, and most deaths feel cheap.

The Choke Point exploit I was talking about above, really adds to the dampening of momentum. And momentum is what makes the early levels in HM2 and all the levels in HM1 feel so great.

In Hotline Miami 1, I knew that when i died, it was my fault. The game was simple. But when you are given a SNIPER RIFLE with MINIMAL AMMO, and forced to take out an adundance of enemies and still have ammo for the later portions of that level to defeat Bullet-Only enemies? That is EXTREMELY FRUSTERATING. I almost broke my controller because I was so angry.

Trigger Locking is a MUST this time around, in Hotline Miami 1, i was able to get 12x combos and all the achievements with minimal use of locking, but since HM2 racks up the enemy count per level to increase the difficulty, Trigger Locking feels imperitive. The main problem with it, is that it tends to ingore the direction you are facing when locking onto enemies. Since areas are so densly populated with enemies, locking onto people through walls instead of in front of you although they are almost equally as far away, is all too common.

The soundtrack. Is. Jizztacular. And in the scene selection area, you can view which song is playing for which scene!

Hotline Miami 2 takes its story fairly seriously, in that dialogue sequences last a pretty long time, and the game hopes you will piece everything together and have fun. But after each story arc (Which follows 9 Different "Plot Arcs"), you find that each "CONCLUSION", doesn't conclude. You don't accomplish anything. You dont change anything due to your actions. NOTHING from this game as far as story has you actually succeeding in doing anything, its as if this game was just an afterward of Hotline Miami 1 written in a horrid fan-fic-esque fashion. Good stories have you accomplishing something through playing the levels, and the final level SHOULD feel empowering as you completed something difficult and can reap the rewards of your trouble. But no, the last level just cuts off and finalizes the story in a slow dialogue between two characters you forgot were in the game because they weren't mentioned for 3 acts. ITS CHEAP. ITS BAD. They tried...and failed...maybe next time...hopefully not

I don't recommend this game for the fact that the Cons outweigh the Pros, even if i had an absolute blast through the first two acts. I just felt like the game wasn't increasing its difficulty like other games do, it just put you into the levels that were copied over from a toddlers mindless scribbles.

I LOVE Hotline Miami 1...but 2...just falls flat all around in every way other than gameplay. Which is fun if you can ignore the horrid level design.

4/10 - Still a great game! If only there weren't so many Cons :(

(Hotline Miami 2 was a gifted to me by r00ster <3)

Home Improvement: Power Tool Party! , originally developed for the Nintendo 64 in 1999 by Taito, is a four player party game that puts players in control of all of there favorite Home Improvement characters which was made around the same time as the ending of the show and the release of Nintendo and Hudson Soft's Mario Party . As one could guess, Home Improvement: Power Tool Party! is a shameless attempt to cash-in on the popularity of Mario Party and the (pretty much dead at the time) popularity of Home Improvement . However, this game has something that Mario Party wishes it had; Tim Allen.

Ohgod, what can I say about this game that is actually positive. I got this game for free...but not even that can save it from how bad it really is...
Pros
NOTHING, litterally nothing possitive can be said...

Cons
  • The music is horrid and gross sounding!
  • The menus look like something out of a Newgrounds Flash game
  • The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game is $10, really...10 BUCKS
  • The controls are a joke: WASD to move, F is punch. G is grab, H is kick...EXCEPT...
YOU don't need to know any of that, all you need to know how to do is mash H and you will win...every...time
  • The game requires no thinking...whatsoever...
  • Boring as hell
  • The only good thing I can think about this game is how bad the sound effects are, I spammed them in my Teamspeak to my friends so we can laugh at how ludicrous they sound...
Go onto Miniclips.com, hit the random button, and save $10. You will have WAY more fun that way.

Offspring Fling is about a Pols Voice who looses its little ghostlets and tries its hardest to avoid the loud noises of gamers blowing into their controllers in attempts to kill them. Dragons and ♥♥♥♥ are in here, but whatever, you just want to kill these little ghosts...DON'T YOU!?

Super Meat Boy is a special type of game. Its one that mainly appeals to the gamer who enjoys quick bursts of endorphins that are difficult to achieve. This platformer yeilds a learning curve that turns most people away, but if you have the guts and patients to jump, die, jump and die again, then this game is worth it!

Enter the world of super meat boy, where just about everything except the floor is out to turn you into the next preservative injected burger at your local restaurant! Due to the tight controls of Super Meat Boy, constantly dying can only be blamed on you...yourself...not the game...sad huh?
There isn't much of a story to speak of in Super Meat Boy, bandage girl gets stolen, and you pull a Mario to jump your way to the last world and jump on that evil Dr. Fetus'...fetus body suit thingy...

The gameplay is somewhat unique to the platformer genre, mainly because of the increased difficulty and the option to play through harder levels with multiple characters, that are suprisingly different and all fun to use! Throughout the game you will master verticle climbs, sprint jumps, black hole avoiding, dying, and speed, lots of speed. Oh yea and dying. You do alot of that, did I say that already?
Super Meat Boy possesses the NewGrounds Feel, or at least that is what I call it. It has much flash animation influence throughout the cut scenes, and the in game animations and textures are simple, but work to your advantage. For example, many textures that are not immedialy touchable, mostly blend in to the other blocks, and the moving objects, such as spinning blades, are mostly what stand out.

All in all, Super Meat Boy is a highly addictive game, and if you have the time and patients to adapt to the steep learning curve, is a MUST BUY!
