This has greatly improved my productivity when sorting through important paperwork. Working to precise specifications and following rules is greatly improved by the Death and Taxes soundtrack.

So I'm still learning the game, but it's pretty good so far.

Ugh. I don't want to give Armikrog a negative review. Then again, I pretty much have to. Bear with me a moment, what follows are the ramblings of a very conflicted soul.

I'll start by saying that I really enjoyed the game. It kept me entertained and brought back some lovely memories of a little tiny me trying to wrap my head around the Neverhood. The puzzles were challenging, and definitely of the "bizarre adventure game logic" variety, but that's exactly what I expected, and exactly what I wanted.

Why the negative review, then? Well, I did enjoy the game for its entire duration... all four hours of it. Given how much the game sells for, and how much it was hyped up to be during the Kickstarter campaign that brought it to life, that's quite a lot less than I expected. To be blunt, I would have been happy with 12 hours. The puzzle and room design feels much more repetitive than that of the Neverhood.

It kind of feels like a game that was dropped halfway through development. The storyline doesn't seem to really end, or at least it ends too abruptly to really sink in.

If you're a die-hard Neverhood fan who really wants some more, do buy this game. You'll enjoy it, much as I did. However, please bear in mind that you'll be buying something that may well leave you asking for more. And you're probably not getting that second helping anytime soon.

Right, where do I begin?

Hacknet is a game with a lot of potential. I enjoyed it thoroughly, found the story to be very engaging, and the "think fast" moments were executed well enough for some noticeable pressure to kick in. The music and visuals work *really* well together to deliver a captivating experience.

However, Hacknet is not quite at a stage where I'd call it a full release. Right now, it looks more like a competent early access preview. The game is riddled with game-breaking bugs (What's that? You're a completionist and decided to do all quests for one faction before moving on to the next? I'm afraid you just got the storyline out of sync and will find yourself stuck shortly!) and a bit too short to make a strong case for the price tag. The severity of the bugs is somewhat mitigated by the simplicity of the save file format, so if you end up screwing yourself over, you can cheat your way around it.

All in all, Hacknet is a less advanced but still oh-so-enjoyable Uplink. If you already know Uplink and are looking for more of the same, you'll enjoy Hacknet despite its flaws. Since the game is still being actively patched by the dev, it will hopefully become even better over time.
