While there are issues at play, a lot of the negative reviews I have seen seem to come from place of malice rather than helpful reviewing. I want to actually give it a fair chance, so to debunk or support a lot of the criticisms I've seen on and off site;

1) "All of the companions are too buddy-buddy"

Sure, characters are friends. Some of these characters are also unnerved by the other's presence. However, they are all adults and CO-WORKERS. A lot of people were hoping for the da2 type of aggressive banter, but I think we forget the da2 cast was a special breed of mental illness there (in the most affectionate way to put it possible, da2 has been one of my favourites of the series for a while). Also, there are characters who will outright say how they dislike each other in their banters in this game, I think you are all just bringing the wrong characters if you want aggressive banter.

2) Addressing any of the "forced wokeness"

It isn't that prominent. We had an all bisexual cast in dragon age 2, two bisexuals in dao, and even more queer characters in dai. If your issue with the game lies with queer characters, yet you claim to be an old game purist for the franchise? You've played the games with your eyes closed, I'm sorry to say. This game has had a hate campaign swirling around it on claims that it forces it down your throat, or forces you to play as a queer character, but these are lies. Most "proof" of this you see is the top surgery scar OPTION in the character creator and bulge slider available for both genders. If you don't want to play a trans character, these both are undoable. The other proof used is Varric's Shaving Mirror. Which to that I say, there is a back button. You don't have to click the transgender options. If you don't want it, then it's not for you. Easy. Thirdly, Taash existing. I'm sorry that you get ONE character that isn't cis. Now you know how trans people feel all the time. Must suck. This is the only thing I will be mean about because it's such a pathetic thing to get upset about in my eyes, and quite frankly I have had enough of grown adults acting like teething toddlers over a single fictional character not being cisgender. Get over yourselves. Trans characters have been in the series for ages, and you only out yourself as a tourist for getting mad about it.

3) Glitches

I will say you definitely need a bit of a better PC to play the game, as even I have experienced crashes and such due to playing at the highest graphics setting. However, I do think a lot of people are exaggerating their experiences to support outright hating the game. This does seem to fall under personal experience and PC quality, but the game is still receiving frequent patches as it only recently released, I feel the need to remind. I've also experienced more outright crashes than I have glitches, which there is a difference in that regard

4) "It doesn't feel like dragon age"

In my opinion, this feels more like a dragon age game to me than inquisition did, and that's saying something considering inquisition was my first game from the franchise back in 2017. While there are retcons and design changes, I urge you all to remember that has been a large part of the other games, too. Every dragon age game has disproved the last, in some way or another. The writing in dialogue for me feels very reminiscent to dao, though not a lot of people seem to admit that as this game has a verbal protagonist, unlike origins.

5) Cartoony graphics

Sure, it isn't hyperrealism, but quite frankly I think the game would have fallen flat if the graphics were in line with that. I'm sure we all remember the slimy meat puppets that we called the inquisition cast. Bioware has never been great at realism, so they avoid it for obvious reason.

6) my own comments

The game has its issues, and I definitely think there are things that fall flat, but not every video game has to be perfect. I feel like I'm about to poke a sleeping bear, and I say this as someone who also really loved bg3, but I would honestly say that the veilguard is better than bg3. Bg3 fans do not eat me alive I have over 400 hours in bg3, I enjoy the game, but the veilguard proves more interesting in the long run. I enjoy that the game brings back the origins system of dao, the combat it much more smooth than the older games, and the sidequests manage to not feel all that repetitive for as far as side quests go. I feel like this game has great mod potential, and I'm excited to see what people are able to do with the game as time goes on.
