STEINS;GATE vs. STEINS;GATE: Linear Bounded Phenogram

1. STEINS;GATE: Linear Bounded Phenogram is a spin-off of STEINS;GATE. Most of STEINS;GATE: Linear Bounded Phenogram isn't canon and the canonicity of a few chapters (Kurisu & Nae) are up for debate. I have not found sources confirming the debated chapters as canon however.

2. Unlike STEINS;GATE: My Darling's Embrace, which is another spin-off in the STEINS;GATE series, there is no character introductions. Because of this, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU TO PLAY STEINS;GATE OR STEINS;GATE Elite (which comes with this game) BEFORE PLAYING STEINS;GATE Linear Bounded Phenogram in order to best understand characters and their personalities, settings as well as D-Mailing and time leaping!

3. STEINS;GATE Linear Bounded Phenogram, consists of 11 short stories written by different writers who each wrote one story. The stories are disconnected from each other and each one focuses on a specific STEINS;GATE character in their perspective unlike how we're used to seeing everything in Okabe's perspective in STEINS;GATE. This also allows you to see other characters' phones, which I loved to see. In STEINS;GATE, you have the ability to reach different endings but in STEINS;GATE Linear Bounded Phenogram, there are no multiple endings to an individual story. Additionally, there are 5 pieces called "engrams" containing stories, you can choose which story to read from an engram using a new feature called the "divergence selector". Meaning, you don't have to necessarily read each story in order from 1 to 11. You can make your own story order combination.

4. In STEINS;GATE Linear Bounded Phenogram, there are 2 NEW CHARACTERS who weren't in STEINS;GATE! One of them is brand new and the other makes a return from the previous entry, the spin-off mentioned before which is STEINS;GATE: My Darling's Embrace. But smh, the new character that we're seeing for the first time has a crush on Mayuri, if I correctly understood the dialogue I'm referring/referencing to.

5. In STEINS;GATE Linear Bounded Phenogram, a method of tracking sent emails which was introduced in STEINS;GATE: My Darling's Embrace makes a return. This system was unavailable in STEINS;GATE. This system will be handy to those seeking the achievement regarding 100% mail/email completion.

6. In STEINS;GATE, Okabe was the only person D-Mailing and Time Leaping. Well, in STEINS;GATE Linear Bounded Phenogram, you'll witness others doing it as well.

7. The sprite quality in STEINS;GATE Linear Bounded Phenogram is better than STEINS;GATE. I loved the quality of art in this game!

More About STEINS;GATE Linear Bounded Phenogram

As the 11 stories in this game are disconnected from each other, you kind of have to judge each story individually. They all seem to teach a moral lesson to the reader though, such as fighting your greatest fears, growing up by taking responsibility for your actions, avoiding escapism and moving forward, figuring out what causes ones' true happiness, understanding true friendship, not judging someone without truly knowing them personally and more! They're all well-written stories, so thanks to all of the writers who poured their time and heart into this game!

Review of STEINS;GATE: Linear Bounded Phenogram

Here are notes I have taken about some character stories.

1. Daru's story justifies that the Delta wordlines that we once knew to be so bright and peaceful from STEINS;GATE: My Darling's Embrace is not always all rainbow and sunshine. Nonetheless, I still loved seeing Amane Yuki (Daru's future wife) from STEINS;GATE: My Darling's Embrace make a return in this spin-off, with her young face revealed .

2. Suzuha's story was quite fulfilling to me as it provided context as to why she despised Kurisu so much. I was glad to see Suzuha change her negative bias/energy towards Kurisu at the end and seeing her as a friend rather than an enemy. We really needed that context and we needed to see that change in heart. Likewise, Moeka's story was fulfilling to read as well as we better understood the tight grasp FB had on Moeka, which shadowed her rationality and judgement. In Moeka's story, you can see how FB has caused her to be so supicious of lab member intentions and how seriously Moeka takes the nonsense lab members spit out. So, you can really see how FB took the humanity out of Moeka. And by the way, I think this is why Moeka'a wallpaper is hazy, it's to symbolize her conflicted thoughts. The lesson here was all about friendship. Cant believe what she did at the end, quite honorable. Loved the ending.

3. Suzuha's, Lukako's, Moeka's, Tennouji's and Mayuri's stories were all touching stories in their own ways that had me emotionally hooked, they're my top 5 favorite. Mayuri's story is my most favorite out of all of the 11 stories. It had me sobbing. Although not canonical, It's sad learning that Mayuri has a crush on Okabe and witnessing how she remembers kissing him for fun as a child but acknowledges that Okabe has feelings for Kurisu. I enjoyed the lesson on moving forward and avoiding escapism though. The ending to her story was the cherry on top, I loved how Okabe hugged Mayuri from behind.

4. NOTE TO ANYONE CAPABLE OF TIME TRAVELLING: AVOID EPSILON WORLDLINES (4.nnnnnn...) AT ALL COSTS! OR YOU'LL BE GOING IN CIRCLES AND FEELING DUMB BY THE TIME YOU FIGURE OUT WHY!

5. Chapter 11 wasn't the most emotionally hooking, but to me it was the most interesting to read. In this worldline, Mayuri is dead and so is Tennouji. It reflected a near future world without them two alive. And it doesn't seem to be a happy one. It seems that CERN has gained more control throughout the world, or at least Japan or the Akihabara area in particular. That worldline was probably a depiction of the very early stages of a horrible future. However, I was glad to see that Tennouji protected Nae by entrusting her to the hands of Rumiho's family. The lesson taught in this story about parents and friends saying white lies to protect the people they love was touching to me and I loved the ending. It was quite interesting to see that world and I think it's a small exercise for what's to come in STEINS;GATE 0.

6. Okay, just a little bit of criticism, but why have you added email phone trigger icons/warnings (you know, the lock icon) if we're just going to open up our phones inboxes anyway? Isn't that lock icon meant to signal that there's a route split ahead and that replying to the email is optional? Plus, there are no multiple endings in this game!

7. I haven't fully played CHAOS games yet but I'm pretty sure there were some CHAOS references around on billboards and signs. Nice details if it's true!

8. I think my phone wallpapers from previous STEINS;GATE games loaded onto this game, if so, sweet!

Overall, I loved this game. I'd love to share my two favorite quotes from the game before signing off! It's taken from Mayuri's story!

"Grandma, you said before that people who want to see each other will always meet again someday. That it's fate."

"If I don't know who it is...and I wish to see them...will we still meet...?"

BUY THIS GAME WHEN IT IS ON SALE, OTHERWISE IT IS NOT WORTH IT - TOO EXPENSIVE!

About Mafia: Definitive Edition

A recreation of an original published about two decades ago, Mafia: Definitve Edition is a graphically stunning game following Tommy Angelo in the fictional city of Lost Heaven, Illinois in the 1930s. Tommy is a cab driver who first encounters the Salieri mafia while some mafia members desperately use his cab as a getaway during a chase. Folllowing the chase, the mafia pays Tommy handsomly and offers high paying jobs in the mafia. Later, Tommy is attacked by a rival mafia and runs to the doorsteps of a restaurant ran by the Salieris. The Salieris scare the rival mafia off their turfs and Tommy decides to join the Salieris.

In this story, you'll see how Tommy rises in honor and wealth throughout his time with the Salieris, how he eliminates rival mafias and how he parts ways with the Salieris. You'll also notice how Tommy struggles against being humane and being a part of the mafia family ("to pull or not to pull the trigger"). And uh, you'll also see how Tommy gets himself a girl because he was single before he met with the Salieris.

The story consists of 20 chapters - about half are short and the other half are long. The story linearly progresses. There is also a free roam mode you can unlock after completing the first chapter.

There are lots of collectibles scattered through the chapters and the map. I finished the story but I still need to collect the collectibles. I'll do my best after this review, but it's A LOT.

The game has a GPS system on the bottom right corner of the screen but luckily there are white arrow signs on your road that you can alternatively use instead while driving - I loved that.

Mafia: Definitve Edition Pain Points

1. The black screen with Tommy's silhouette on the left and the "Continue" option at the bottom right corner takes so long to load. It takes a while for that "Continue" text to appear, and because of this, the time between dieing and respawning is awkward, it's too long.

2. There are a handful of reused NPC character models. It isn't obvious at first as they all seem to blend in with the environment, but if you take a closer look, you'll realize that the same NPCs are copy-pasted into the environment a lot. The reusage is especially noticable following the race Tommy wins where he walks around looking for drunk Paulie. That's where I first realized. So, I wish there were more different NPC models walking around.

3. BUG: After I finished the creme de la creme chapter and the cutscene with Don played and I received the creme de la creme chapter achievement, it said I died and the options for that appeared. Luckily, I immediately discovered a walk around which was going back to the menu, and reloading the story. It then continued as normal to the next chapter.

4. Breaking on most cars is a pain. Breaking is rough and seems to leave tire marks on the road too often. Nevermind this pain point if it is intentional and meant to accurately resemble 1930s vehicle breaking.

5. I wish there was more room on the roads, especially in roads with trams going through the middle, they narrow down the road too much. Nevermind this pain point if it is intentional and meant to accurately resemble 1930s city roads.

6. As I said at the beginning of this review, the normal price tag is just not worth the money. While the graphics and map are a work of art, the actual content within the game isn't a lot, so I find the normal price expensive. I completed the story in like 10 hours on Normal and Easy difficulty. I'm glad I purchased this game during a sale for a 80% discount.

7. Unskippable credits, really? I couldn't skip the credits seen at the end of the epilogue. I had my Xbox controller plugged onto my PC with a cable but even my PC keyboard wouldn't respond.to any input. I went onto my phone out of boredom while the credits rolled for like 5-10 minutes.

Final Thoughts On Mafia: Definitve Edition

Putting the pain points aside, it's a well-written mafia story and a well designed game. The graphics left my mouth open in awe - this is how you make a definitive edition! From the beginning to the end of the epilogue, it was a great experience, I absolutely loved it.

What. A. Ride!
This. Is. The. Way. To. End. The. Trilogy!

It's such a masterpiece but it's one that needs a tiny bit of tuning.

About: Corpse Party: Blood Drive

The story takes place two months after the end of Book of Shadows, which was the second entry in the Corpse Party series. If you're new to Corpse Party, first play Corpse Party 2021 (Corpse Party: Blood Covered), then Corpse Party: Book of Shadows and lastly this game. I won't share the story because it would spoil it. Play and learn for yourself!

Blood Drive vs. Blood Covered & Book of Shadows

There are a lot of differences!

1. The game map and characters are now in 3D unlike previous entries! Sprites shown in dialogue as well as gallery/artwork remain 2D though!

2. There is a new hiding mechanic now. There are also traps in Heavenly Host that you have to look out for or else you'll be damaged.

3. There are a HANDFUL of new characters! Most are side characters but they're all crucial to this new story.

5. Because of how Corpse Party 2021 ended, there is a new method to enter and escape Heavenly Host which SURPRISE, SURPRISE! STILL EXISTS! You'll learn why it still exists as you play and learn how it formed in the first place as well.

6. The biggest difference is all about the horror experience though! This game is absolutely FRIGHTENING! It is scarier than the previous entries in the series! I was so scared that I began using guides towards the final chapters!

7. Sprites are in their best quality yet!

What I loved about Corpse Party: Blood Drive

1. The ending. Without a doubt. That was the ending we all wanted and the ending we all fought for since Book of Shadows. The ending almost fooled me until the very end. Absolutely loved it - that was the best way to end this trilogy.

2. Sprites & Artwork. I just loved seeing it all HD and so vibrant.

3. The Sayaka and Harayuki part in Chapter 10. It felt satisfying to witness Sayaka put a wild Harayuki to rest.

4. In an extra chapter, we finally learned how Morshige died in Corpse Party 2021. Book of Shadows showed a non-canon way, this game showed the canon way. Watching the canon way was satisfying. It was a really sad extra but I absolutely loved it. It really showed that Shige wasn't always a corpse photo loving insane character the moment he entered Heavenly Host and that he was still human inside and had respect for the dead (remember how he put Mayu in a Ziploc bag - that's respect!). The extra chapter proved that he wasn't like Kizami as he said. And I caught onto Team GrisGris sticking to their promise from Corpse Party 2021 about Shige and Kizami maybe meeting again someday. Great way to end the confusion about the Morshige character following Corpse Party 2021's ending!

What I disliked about Corpse Party: Blood Drive

1. Many lines don't have voice acting. Why...? :(((

2. I loved how their was controller support for this entry but I hated how there were no default controls for my new gen Xbox controller. Had to set it all up myself.

3. Bug: On two occasions I couldn't click on "Options" and "Bonuses". Had to restart the game to fix it.

4. Bug: Had to lower my FPS to 60 for the Chapter 9 den chase with Satoshi and Yuka. It's apparently a really old bug, why hasn't it been fixed yet?

5. Bug: Forgot which Chapter (guessing 0), Kishinuma's legs and hands clips through roof railing while eating lunch with Satoshi and Kuon Sensei.

6. Maybe a skill issue but it felt like our stamina was a bit too low. We should be able to run a few more seconds.

7. Sometimes you have too limited time to make choices. I had a few times where I was still reading the choices and the timer ended so I locked myself into a bad ending without meaning to.

8. Book of Shadows was easier and had temp saves. Why did you guys scrape that concept for Blood Drive? It would have been really useful for this harder entry. Didn't like how we couldn't temp save.

9. I understood the story but it felt a tiny bit complicated or overwhelming to digest since it's so much new story being told at once. I think it's because of Magari and Mitsuo's background stories.

10. Phantoms disappear at cutscenes but will be back in the place they last were after the cutscene. I wish they permanently disappeared when we entered cutscenes.

11. Bug: The first time after I went through the long cutscene with Magari, Ayumi and Aiko about Naho's hairpin at Second Wing Floor 2, my screen went black so I had to go through that cutscene again.

I know I have listed a lot of cons, but they're all minor and don't diminish the overall gaming experience. This is a horror game - it's meant to scare you. Was I scared, pooping my pants? Yes. Then the horror game is good. The pros of Blood Drive outweigh the cons.

I have 100% beat the game but still got to read how victims died and listen to soulful testimonies. I'll happily get to that.

Lastly, fantastic job Team GrisGris! The tech, experience and art in Blood Drive surpassed any previous Corpse Party!

Before anything:

1. Play Corpse Party 2021 first!

2. If you're stuck on Chapter 1 in the hallway, because clicking anything in the hallway doesn't work, open your map, click on the class to enter the classroom. It's how moving works in this game.

3. This game exceeds Corpse Party 2021 (the prequel, AKA Blood Covered) by MILES in terms of how scary, artistic and bloody it is! This game makes Corpse Party 2021 look like a CHILD'S TOY! That's how scary this game is!

Corpse Party 2021 vs Corpse Party: Book of Shadows

1. Corpse Party: Book of Shadows is both the sequel and also the prequel to Corpse Party 2021. Book of Shadows will cover events happening before and after the Kisaragi Academy gang entered and escaped Heavenly Host in Corpse Party 2021. However, unlike most people's expectations of Book of Shadows being mainly a sequel, literally 12.5% of the game is a sequel. Just one chapter out of all that's in Book of Shadows is the sequel to Corpse Party 2021 you're looking for. Most of the game/chapters, in Book of Shadows, focuses on alternate endings to how Corpse Party 2021 ended. Many of such chapters in Book of Shadows are like extended versions or continuations to some of the bad endings in Corpse Party 2021. And they really help you understand the mindset of some characters more. The rest of the chapters are prequels, which I believe were two.

2. Corpse Party 2021 had a linear story - meaning, the chapters continued in order. In Book of Shadows, there is no order. The chapters in Book of Shadows are all disconnected from each other, and are all their own story from different timelines.

3. The biggest difference between the two is all about gameplay. In Corpse Party 2021, we took control of characters in a map from a third person, birds eye view, in a somewhat pixelated world. It was a RPG Maker Engine styled game. Well, in Book of Shadows, all of that completely changes. In Book of Shadows, our map is entirely made out of art the developers created that fit the whole screen and we take control of our characters in first person and sometimes encounter cutscenes and events in third person. However, unlike Corpse Party 2021 where we felt like we were moving a doll in a dollhouse, in Book of Shadows, you'll actually feel like you're wondering inside of Heavenly Host at the level (height) of the characters. And I think this element makes Book of Shadows way more scarier to experience. Unlike Corpse Party 2021 where you moved your character using the arrow keys or WASD, in Book of Shadows, you have to move your character by clicking on locations on your map. Also, unlike Corpse Party 2021 where you grabbed items by pressing your 'Enter' key, in Book of Shadows you have you to move your cursor and click in order to interact with an item - this is why others describe this game as a "clicker game".

4. The abundance of art in Book of Shadows exceeds Corpse Party 2021 by miles. That's all I'm saying about art.

5. There are new extras in Book of Shadows that we didn't come across in Corpse Party 2021. I won't spoil them, but I loved listening to one of them!

6. Unlike Corpse Party 2021 where there were like 25 extra chapters, in Book of Shadows, there is only 1 extra chapter.

7. Unlike Corpse Party 2021, in Book of Shadows getting darkened is now a thing, it's a new mechanic. You experience how darkening works and get a better understanding of how exactly it works, or what triggers it exactly. There is a darkening meter you have to watch out for. It can't reach 100% or bad stuff will happen!

My Thoughts On Corpse Party: Book of Shadows

Just like how Heavenly Host hosts some thoughts of victims throughout the school, I have noted down my own thoughts while exploring Heavenly Host! XD

1. So first and foremost, very painful cutscene to witness when you first boot up the game and don't head on to the main menu yet. It definitely has to be seen before the sequel chapter. I felt bad for Shinozaki.

2. Starting with the first chapter in Book of Shadows, chapter Seal, I just know that it is based on the "Loop/Looped" bad ending from Corpse Party 2021 where Satoshi enters and reenters Heavenly Host forever and ever! Very interesting way (chapter) to handle that ending from Corpse Party 2021!

3. I didn't note the chapter down but I think it was Demise(?), I just know that it is based on the bad ending in Corpse Party 2021 where Kishinuma doesn't check on Shinozaki when she gets possessed for the first time (or second time). Once again, very interesting way (chapter) to handle that ending from Corpse Party 2021!

4. It was quite fulfilling to learn more about Naho and Yui Sensei before the events of Corpse Party 2021. Their chapters were really well written prequels and helped me connect with those two more better. They were background stories that I needed!

5. After playing Corpse Party 2021, I felt displeased about how Morshige was handled. When I wrote my review for it, I mentioned that: it felt like he had too little screen time, that we didn't really understand how his personality turned 180 degrees and why he had to be left behind in Heavenly Host. I was left to assume that he changed because of seeing Mayu's splattered corpse on the wall on his phone in Corpse Party 2021. But I couldn't help but wonder...was it really the case? Did that event alone completely change Morshige? And well, Chapter 5 of this game answers the personality change question. In Chapter 5 of Book Shadows, you can clearly see that Morshige was initially mentally fine/stable once he entered Heavenly Host but slowly succumbed to the darkening and became the twisted corpse phone photo loving maniac we saw in Corpse Party 2021. I got to be honest guys, it was really painful seeing Morshige succumb to the darkness in Chapter 5. He tried so hard to find Mayu, he tried so hard to fight his psychopath intrusive thoughts and focus on continuing to find Mayu but he just couldn't control himself. His twisted intrusive thoughts won and took over himself. It was just so upsetting to witness that and made me sympathize with Morshige more. This made me realize that Morshige isn't really like Kizami. However, this explanation has to be taken with a grain of salt because....it isn't canon. At the end we learned Chapter 5 is just an alternate ending to Corpse Party 2021...this is the one thing that ruins this chapter, but, I guess it wouldn't be wrong to make the assumption that Morshige experienced a similar experience (darkness succumbing fight within himself) in the main story of Corpse Party 2021. So, I really appreciated this chapter, it helped me better understand Morshige and his thought processes as a character.

6. I just know that Chapter 6 is based on the bad ending from Corpse Party 2021 where Kizami catches Yuka during the second wing chase in Chapter 5! Once again, very interesting way (chapter) to handle that ending from Corpse Party 2021! I loved something about it though, which is that we saw that part of Kizami is actually human and why Kizami is...Kizami! The chapter really provided much needed background story to Kizami!

7. I just know that Tooth (Chapter 7) is based on the Tooth extra chapter from the old Corpse Party. Very amazing remaster!

8. Lastly, Chapter 8 the long awaited sequel to Corpse Party 2021, focused on something interesting which was ambiguity to the deaths of those we lost in Corpse Party 2021 (why was everything about our dead friends erased from history while stuff from Naho, Yoshie and Sachiko stayed?} I was so excited to play it, I was so awake during it from start to the end and I absolutely loved it. The end had my mouth open in shock.

Do NOT buy the old Corpse Party, buy THIS one!

Corpse Party vs. Corpse Party 2021

I'm writing this comparison as a player who has 100% completed both the old Corpse Party and the new Corpse Party and I'm going to get straight into highlighting the differences

1. Corpse Party 2021 has lots of art unlike the old Corpse Party. When I wrote my review for the old version, I said that a painpoint of mine was the lack of art, especially for wrong ends and alternate endings. While this new version doesn't show art for every ending, it does show amazing, high-quality 2D art for a handful of endings and shows art in many scenes. There are also lots of new and improved character sprites that suit the game characters very well. This abundance of art was just what I needed to better enjoy Corpse Party.

2. Corpse Party 2021 has way more extras than the old Corpse Party. The extras tell the stories of some side characters in Heavenly Host as well as some times of our main characters in the school which we were not aware of. I especially liked the last extra chapter that combined 2020 (the modern day) with 2006, I really enjoyed that extra, that was the cherry on top to this game.

3. When it comes to storytelling in Corpse Party 2021, it's not that different from the old Corpse Party. It's pretty much about the same, however, there are a few scenes where the storytelling was handled differently, but they're not significant or something to worry about, you're not missing out on anything in the new one - again, the story is pretty much the same. I played the old Corpse Party before this, and because the story was so much the same, I skipped through most of it and just focused on 100% completion. Because of this, I finished this game in half the time I finished the old one but if I fully played and read everything, I'm guessing I would've finished the game in about the same time or maybe a tiny bit later because of all of the extras.

4. When it comes to gameplay it's the same. The only difference about gameplay is user interfaces. The UIs received massive improvements. Perhaps this is why this version is based in Unity rather than just the RPG Maker Engine. I love how our items are displayed on the right during gameplay in Corpse Party 2021 and how there are summaries to endings on the main menu. The old version wasn't like that, great improvement.

So, what do I have to say? I wish I never played the old Corpse Party and instead just played this one, this was absolutely amazing. Absolutely amazing remaster. I can't wait to begin playing the other entries in the series.

EDIT: But wait a minute...I have two questions!

I have been thinking about two things after playing this game and writing this review.

1. Why were we never able to play as Morshige in the main story, why does he have so little screen time? I realized that we don't really know a lot about Morshige other than his quiet, introverted, phone and Mayu loving personality. After witnessing his traumatic experience of seeing Mayu's corpse on his cell phone , are we just going to assume he began getting consumed by the darkening like Kizami? Couldn't we have saved Morshige, to be honest?

2. Taguchi's last appearance made me wonder where he left since you know, the last place we saw him had so many dead ends. We had to flip levers to get to where we needed to. He didn't do that, where did he run off to???

Oh well, the game was still good, absolutely loved it. Triple A story.

You have gotta buy this game!

It's a triple A horror game where you have the ability to make choices that'll influence the outcome of the story. The graphics are absolutely stunning. Your choices will determine who lives and who dies at this quarry.

However, I have a few pain points:

- The game isn't really that optimized. I have a mid-end PC that can handle high graphic settings on most games, and for this game in particular I had to use the lowest graphic settings possible because my PC was really heating up to the point I was concerned that I would fry computer components such as the battery.

- There is a huge difference in physical appearance for one of the character's (Laura). Her head shape seems changed. Compare herself in the prologue and then the further chapters. You'll notice she has changed a lot while her boyfriend Max and Northkill County Sheriff Travis hasn't changed a bit. Not a fan of what you guys did to Laura's appearance.

- The epilogue. While making the epilogue the podcast was a creative idea, applying it to the credit rolls wasn't because that credit roll was the longest credit roll I have ever experienced in a game. The long credit roll made me stop listening to the podcast after the first few minutes. And the inability to skip the credit roll / epilogue is immensely frustrating.

Putting these pain points aside, it's an amazing game. There's not a lot of games out there like this where you can make choices that shape the story. It's also one with twists and multiple game modes which is a plus.

I came across this game while researching games similar to Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto series and saw this game being constantly recommended. And I have to say, it's very similar, the recommendations are true. It has a rich storyline, a large map to explore full of many main quests and side quests to fulfill and lots of freedom. I'm genuinely surprised this game never received a sequel. However, I can see what might have been the potential causes. And it'll share them with you towards the end of this review.

About Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition

In this game, you play as Wei Shen, a Hong Konger, undercover cop who returns to Hong Kong after spending a long time in the United States. In Hong Kong, Wei is tasked to become a part of the Sun On Yee triad and infiltrate it. However, something's making Wei's task easier and harder for him to complete at the same time. Fights for hierarchy begin to take place within the Sun On Yee and a large rival triad known as the 18k is contanstly attacking the Sun On Yee. As Wei fights against the internal and external wars of the Sun On Yee, he begins forming close bonds with his triad, such as with a boy named Jackie, his first boss named Winston and the highest up called Uncle Po as well as some girlfriends of Sun On Yee members. This intimacy is noticed by Wei's boss for police related jobs - Pendrew, and further complicates Wei's mission to infiltrate the Sun On Yee. Will Wei betray the Hong Kong Police Department and become a forever member of the Sun On Yee or will he remain the cop he is and put an end to Sun On Yee? Find out by playing the game!

This game has a perfect story that linearly progresses. The story is brilliantly written from start to end. And the game graphics are absolutely stunning. The ending will leave fans happy and curious at the same time. However, despite it being the Definitive Edition, it still needs tuning, it's still not perfect. There was a sequel in the works which was cancelled and the reason officially was that there wasn't enough sales for this game, but I don't think that's the real reason but rather a result of the reason. If the game was better, it would have made more sales for sure.

Pain Points For Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition

Here are my pain points for this game. Others most likely felt it as well and what I'm about to list must have contributed to the game not receiving a lot of sales and popularity:

- There are a lot of policemen scattered around the map. This kind of pressures players to not be as free as they want to be. Constantly obeying the law isn't fun.

- Cars severely deform when they crash for the first time.Even if your crash isn't that bad, your car will end up looking absolutely horrible after a single crash. So, please tune down the car damage!

- Red enemies around the map (i.e. The ones in front of blue briefcases full of money) never disappear. After defeating them once, I want them to permanently disappear like how they do in gang bust areas.

- The selection of music to play on radios for this game wasn't the best. I only liked some classical music as well as some slow, soft-spoken traditional music.

- It might just be me, but I feel like the entire map is generated when you play. I'm not sure if there's a rendering mechanic set in place but I feel like there should be a limit to the max rendering distance to better optimize the game's performance. I know that textures load more as you get closer to them but I don't know about shapes.

- The GPS sometimes retraces its path at certain areas. I especially experience this on highway entrances and exits when entering/leaving one district/area to another.

- The dramatic slow mo scenes for car stunts get annoying if you're doing a small stunt or a failed stunt. For instance, sometimes it plays when my car jumps a few feet from the ground.

- Physics needs a little tuning. I sometimes bounced to far distances in car or by walking when I crashed on something, it reminds me of how wacky GTA: SA physics were.

- The same character models were reused so much! I wish they were more variety in NPC models!

- Aiming for guns isn't quite accurate. The aim will turn red and when I shoot the enemy, the enemy doesn't die. It'll take me a few shots. I experienced this quite a lot.

- I am not a fan of how the developers designed the map for collectibles. The icons are so small and keeping both the ones you've collected and not collected on the map is annoying. They are color coded in white and grey though, but that took me a few minutes to realize.

- If you fell into the water, there's not a lot of areas for you to get back onto land.

- Blood does not wash away if you are in water. It'll stay on Wei's body and clothing.

- Storylines about dating were too short and didn't really end properly.

- The kidnapping mechanic where you shove a NPC into the car trunk feels like it was going to be used for something but the plan was cancelled. Even so, it still made its way into the game. Like, I don't understand. What can I do with the people I put into the trunk other than taking them out the trunk and killing them?

I am writing this review because I finished the main story. I have so many side quests to complete as well as shopping and collectible searching to do. But don't let my long list of bad stuff discourage you from purchasing the game, the game's worth the money and the pros outweigh the cons, believe me. It'll feel like the game provides more content than its actual size of 15GB or something like that. You'll fall in love with this game.

Unfortunately, the developers of this game (United Front Games) parted ways some years ago, but the publisher is still up and at it. So, Square Enix, if you're reading this review, please, bring the old team back together or form a new team to work on a sequel! This has to be one of your best games - if not, the best game of yours. And make sure to listen to constructive feedback such as mine, you'll need it for a lot of sales.

If you're looking to purchase a triple A racing game with:

- A gigantic map
- Hundreds of cars to choose from and purchase using game money
- Expansion packs
- Customizeable avatars/drivers
- Changing seasons and water
- Above average (good) physics
- Hundreds of different races and many different race types
- Car customization and car upgrades
- Treasure hunts (I am referring to the barn hunts for players)

Then this is the game for you.

Honestly, I don't think I have anything bad to say about this game. When I first began playing I didn't like the handling and braking of the first cars I drove, which were pretty bad, and then discovered that there are way better cars that are easier to control and brake. I have one complaint only which is that you can probably smash through most objects on the map but there are a handful that you can't smash through such as those tall grey bricked rectangular fences, which is kind of annoying, I wish we could smash through more stuff. I also wish that we could get out of our car and freely walk around the map with our avatar. Lastly, I wish there was more traffic, and more straight roads. Since the 5th horizon is already out and because this game will be delisted in december..I suppose my suggestions won't be considered at this point, unfortunately.

I used to be a huge fan of the racing genre as a child, I would especially play some racing games through arcade machines/simulators and this game made me love the racing genre again, it became my favorite racing game, well done, Playground Games!

The BGM and SFX alone is enough to positively review this game. This is one amazing story from start to finish with content that felt more than what is served (800MB), which is a good thing. Absolutely amazing horror. There are multiple endings which is a plus. I felt the need to use a guide at the final chapter, however, because there's so many endings you can obtain from that chapter alone. I used this guide for Chapter 5: https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=673084628. I would recommend it. The true ending to this game (for true ending) is the cherry on top, great job, Team GrisGris! This will always be a memorable series in the horror genre!

After completing the main story, I still have more to explore such as the extras and other endings of the game. And I'm eager to explore them before jumping onto the 2021 version and then Book of Shadows.

EDIT: The extras seem to be nice and some endings are crazy (ex. Chapter Two Wrong End 4/4)!

EDIT 2: I have now 100% completed the game, and I'm lowering my overall rating from a 10 to a 9 because I have realized that this game lacks 2D art. So much art. This game is all just in the RPG-maker-like map and just has not the greatest character sprites which I think is the only art in this game. At the end of many endings, characters are described suffering or characters describe seeing another character in a horrific form and all I see is a black screen. I wish there was art created to depict what they're seeing exactly. Some visual representation (art) to such descriptions would have really improved the experience.

Not even halfway through the game, and I strongly dislike it, not for the characters, I really don't care that they're girls, but so many aspects of the game is frustrating. I've been playing on singleplayer and here's what I have concluded:

- Crates are so hard to break, I miss breaking crates in one melee slash in previous Wolfenstein games
- Enemies, regardless of level, have way too much health, I spend too much ammo killing an NPC
- Cloak ability is so small in time unless heavily upgraded. This makes the stealth experience in this game horrible
- Crashes, I crashed halfway through a level how upsetting
- There's a lot of silver coins all over the map and in many crates but they give so little, how annoying
- The AI/Bot in singleplayer is not the best at keeping up and following
- Losing health while having armor on is incredibly stupid

I love the map and cutscenes though, they're beautifully made and I love the coop concept and the singleplayer freedom but the gameplay is what ruins the experience. Please, in Wolfenstein 3, do not make enemies as difficult or more difficult to kill and at least make crates easy to break again.

I believe you can do better in Wolfenstein 3, MachineGames, I know many people like me have also negatively reviewed this game, but don't let it demoralize you. Note down feedback, and take the appropriate measures for Wolfenstein 3. Wolfenstein 2 was fantastic, you have the potential to make Wolfenstein 3 even better, you can do it. Will be excitedly waiting for Wolfenstein 3 after Indiana Jones drop.

Have a good day.
