Silent Hill 2 Remake was my first experience with the series, coming in as a longtime Resident Evil fan and going in completely blind. That made for an uneven experience overall, but one area consistently stood out in a positive way: the puzzles.

Exploring Silent Hill’s rust-covered interiors and working through its puzzles was the most engaging part of the game. The puzzles were challenging without feeling unfair, often requiring a few quiet moments of observation and thought rather than brute-force trial and error. When a solution finally clicked, it was genuinely satisfying, and those moments of progress helped carry the experience forward.

Unfortunately, other systems didn’t always support that momentum. PC performance issues frequently broke immersion, and exploration often left me with an excessive amount of ammo and healing items. Combat quickly became trivial once I figured out the dodge mechanic, and the pipe alone was enough to handle nearly every encounter, making guns largely unnecessary.

The story itself was intentionally vague, but as a first-time Silent Hill player, it often felt confusing and disconnected. I didn’t fully appreciate what the narrative was doing until long after the credits, which made the journey more frustrating than unsettling in the moment.

Still, when the game slowed down and let its atmosphere and puzzle design take center stage, it worked. Those moments of thinking, exploring, and solving were what made my time in Silent Hill enjoyable.

SWTOR Subscriptions through Steam don't work! I purchased this and it didn't reflect in the game, so I contacted Steam support and they told me I'd have to go through SWTOR support. Spoke with them and they were happy to fix the issue quickly and ***SWTOR SUPPORT TOLD ME TO NOT SUBSCRIBE THROUGH STEAM!*** Don't frustrate yourself and just purchase the subscription through www.swtor.com directly.

Just don't do it. Even on sale, this game is just not worth the price. There are a few moments that were almost fun, but quickly overshadowed by broken mechanics and gameplay issues. Good multiplayer groups might have actually made this enjoyable, but I'll never know because the multiplayer community has long since moved on to other titles and I couldn't ever get a group together. So, from a single player standpoint, this is not a good purchase.

If you're a fan of the first two movies, then this is a must play! It works well as a third entry in the franchise and the story stays very loyal to the movies. The gameplay is about what you'd expect from a game like this. It's fun and engaging, but nothing you haven't seen before. The music is all pulled from the movies and is honestly fun to hear while playing. I wouldn't call this a scary title by any means, but there were definitely some spooky areas as you go along. If you like Ghostbusters, you'll definitely get your money's worth with this one.

--- UPDATED FOR GOLD EDITION ---

This really very much feels like a Resident Evil 4 remake without Leon, but it was still very entertaining. All of the characters have a LOT of personality and there's no mistaking their motivations. The environments are very detailed and look great. They took what worked from RE7 and tweaked what didn't. I have always preferred the more "scary" Resident Evil games, so Village isn't at the top of my RE picks, but it is firmly in the top half of the list and definitely worth your time.

The game play in the Shadows of Rose expansion feels a little off... movement can be slow and clunky, but I was able to get used to it as I continued playing and it didn't take away from the overall experience. The story line is great, a bit predictable and a little too short, but still a satisfying ending to the Winters' Story. Seeing familiar environments from Rose's point of view was fun to go through and her abilities are enough to be interesting without making combat trivial. The 3rd person point of view works fine in SoR, but for the base game I'd still recommend playing in 1st person. There are too many moments that pull you back into 1st person and it can be distracting.

Mercenaries is what you would expect. It might feel a little shallow compared to previous titles, but that game mode was never a draw for me either way. The Gold Edition added a few more characters and different abilities to play around with, but at the end of the day it's Mercenaries so you already know basically what you're getting there.
