Wildfrost is a roguelike deckbuilder with cute art and a sweet soundtrack. There are several different types of cards, which can all be upgraded through various "charms", which can give that card a wide range of extra abilities and adds extra uniqueness to each run. Your starting card is considered your "leader". It will always be out, and if it's killed you lose the run. It's a neat mechanic.

The game features three factions with each a different playstyle:
1. Snowdwellers: A focus on status effects to gain an advantage: shields, (temporary) attack boosts, poison. freezes, etc.
2. Shademancers: Have the ability to summon units, which can be sacked to take heavy hits or killed by yourself to gain other big bonuses.
3. Clunkmasters: A playstyle revolving around generating and destroying (recycling) (useless) junk cards in combination with clunker-cards that can take hits for you.

Now, this IS a hard game, and it can be very unforgiving if you make a single mistake. Missed that an enemy has teeth (deal damage when hit) or smackback (attacks back on a hit)? Overlooked an enemy's frenzy (attack multiple times) or aimless (hit any target in the row)? Well, that can end a run, especially with the game's "leader" mechanic.

Don't expect to win every single run. However, do expect a lot of fun when you start finding card-interactions that form ridiculous combos.

Oh boy did I love this game when it came out on the Wii back in 2011 (6 years!). Needless to say, my love for this game hasn't changed a bit! This review may be a bit biased, but I'll try to highlight lesser points of this game as well.

The game is very colourful (kinda obvious since colouring is literally one of the objectives of the game) and has a beautiful artstyle. There's plenty of content (even a small multiplayer mode!) and the level design is good.

But what totally makes you fall in love with this game is the soundtrack. Not only is it amazing in general, it also adapts based on the things you do during the level! The more you colour a section, the more energetic the music gets! Enter an area that is filled with ink or blanc houses, and the music will take on a much slower pace. Each colour (7 in total) also adds unique sound effects that blend in with the soundtrack upon painting something with that colour!

There are tons of collectibles, which either increase your final score, allow you to upgrade Blob (making you stronger), or unlock gallery items (which are definitely worth checking out!). It's also possible to see how many of these collectibles you have already collected in a single level, meaning that there's no need to replay all levels just to find that one last collectible.

However, as with any game this game is not perfect which hurts me to say. Depending on how good you are at 3D platformers, this game is too easy. There may be more difficult sections (some of which are just enemy-spam-near-ink-pools), but overall it's not that difficult. (That being said the main audience for this game is probably way younger than me, so that might explain)
I take it that this game mostly focused on chill platforming, rather than tight platforming (which in my opinion is an entire genre on its own!)

Also, it might feel somewhat tutorial-y at some points. (Shut up Pinky I know I can duck to dodge those things!). You might enjoy avoiding the red challenges and just colour a section at your own pace to get rid of this feeling though, which is how I played this game.

Lastly: bugs. There are three bugs I have encountered in this game. They don't affect gameplay much or at all though. The most annoying one is that Blob's Inked sounds keep playing even after cleaning himself in water. The audio is rather low however, so it's possible to just ignore it. Secondly, Pinky's 'duck to dodge'-sprite is misaligned. Lastly, two achievement icons are swapped (how horrible! :O). Needless to say these weren't present in the Wii version (the last one because there were no achievements in that version).

All in all this game is definitely worth picking up during sale, when it drops down to €9.99-

An amazing Turn Based Strategy game. It can drain many hours and is cheap when on sale.
Even after you get tired of the base game, there are many amazing mods out there, some of which overhaul the entire game. With the vast amount of mods in the workshop and on CivFanatics, you'll never get bored this game.

Just one more turn...

Would definitely recommend, especially when on sale

Fun and wacky platformer. Witty, though sometimes annoying dialogues/story telling.
I would recommend you buy it on Sale (because it goes on Sale regularly) and playing it with a Friend, which makes it WAY more fun!

Awesome game :D

Pros:
- GREAT concept
- Some levels are quite challenging and require a special way of thinking (E.g. a 'hook' method or using the ghost paint)
- Many levels to choose from
- More difficult levels for the 'hardcore' puzzlers out there, which are easily spotted on the world-map thanks to a !-sign
- Interesting forms of paint (E.g. Ghost paint and yellow paint)

Cons:
- The same doesn't always happen when painting the same cubes, meaning that sometimes you will complete a level when painting a set of cubes, and sometimes you won't. (This especially happens when using the red paint)
- Achievement 'Challenge n1' is broken, you currently can't achieve it in a non-cheating way. (There however is a guide in French out there which helps to avoid this problem, by changing something in the game's files. (There are plenty of pictures there so you don't need to speak French in order to understand the guide)).
- Annoying main character. I personally hated some of Lucien's conversations, which almost always end up in "I'm hungry","I'm sleepy" or something else which combines the two of them.
- Sometimes translated not so well. So sometimes I wasn't able to understand some of the English from the game because the sentences just didn't make sense.

Overall:
I really liked the puzzle-aspect of the game, despite some of the bugs, unclear things or annoying main character.

By now an older game, but definitely one that has aged well!

Pro's:
- Awesome Storyline
- Coop mode
- No platforming skill needed to solve the puzzles
- A great cast of characters, including Wheatley
- You really get the feeling that you're exploring Aperture Science, meaning that it feels like an open world game even though progress is linear.

Cons:
- Professor Portal Achievement, which is really difficult (and antifun) to get
- Your coop partner can be really frustrating to play with
