Nice to see this series is kept alive on modern platforms instead of lying in the DS grave.

The EO series is the peak of DRPGs in gameplay. You form your own team of adventurers to venture into the labyrinth. Each game in its series has its own classes, dungeons, and enemies; so it's possible to start from any game as each one is independent from another. The only exception is Nexus on the 3DS. For beginners, I recommend EO3. However, if you have a working 3DS, I highly recommend EO4 instead.

Since this is EO1 we're talking about, this is the one that starts it all. Various things have not aged well here, especially as evidenced in the class skill trees, but that doesn't take the fun out of it. The thrill of exploration and facing powerful foes still remain here. Any false move in one turn can possibly mean your team's end, so you'll need to consider your actions carefully. Fortunately, difficulty options were added for this and the next two games. If you're new to the series or RPGs in general, you can play this on Picnic or Basic. For anyone else experienced in RPGs, playing on Expert from start to end is the intended experience from the original game.

Even on Steam, F.O.E!

This is a strategy game similar to Fire Emblem, but battles are more skill-based (less RNG is involved). And no, you don't lose characters if they lose in battle.

This is also a decent port based on the Switch/mobile version, which is in turn based on the PSP version. That being said; the narrator localization in this particular version is odd, but the rest of the game plays somewhat differently with plenty of Quality-of-Life features.

As someone who has played the original (classic) version two decades ago, this is nothing like that. Overall, this feels like a lazy mobile port with no innovation. The only reason to get into it is the nostalgic soundtrack.

My recommendation: Move on to better, modern rhythm games such as DJMAX, EZ2ON, SDVX, Arcaea, etc. This "thing" has no place here and is not worth your time.

If you like sushi, get this game.

It's an amazing game with great Japanese humor, and it's worth the price. It's also quite fun for 100% completion.

I saw this in RTA in Japan, and I thought "why not" for a change in pace.

The original game might be incredibly old, but this Steam version made it much more accessible by adding modern controls and in-game tutorials and tips to play the game. The real fun comes from the events that can happen, both good and bad. The price tag is worth it for both the accessibility and the opportunity to support the developers over the years maintaining this masterpiece.

A well-made rogue-like building and small colony management game. Every settlement you build is a challenge against the environment and its hostiles. After conquering each area, you gain experience points and resources needed to gain permanent upgrades for future runs. Rinse and repeat, especially when you decide to face against harsher biomes and higher difficulty settings.

UI is pretty decent, but I personally wish some of its alerts are more easily noticed (available blueprints, deeds (both new and complete), orders, etc.) as there are many things to keep track of. Thankfully; you can pause anytime for as long as you need during gameplay, and then unpause and speed it up to your liking.

There's a free demo as well if you haven't noticed, which I highly recommend. Attempts made in the demo (up to Level 3 maximum) will be transferred to the full game, so it is definitely worthwhile to try if you're into building games in general.

Crystal Project is, just as advertised, a combination of a turn-based JRPG and a Metroid-like game with 3D platforming. This game has done it well in both areas; as you gain levels and learn skills (manually) for each class you get while you explore the world in search of equipment, classes, and other essentials to help you progress in your adventure.

The class system is identical to Final Fantasy V's, as you choose a main class and a command list from the other class the same character has learned skills in. This allows you to mix and match powerful combos to pull through. The combat itself is Etrian Odyssey/SMT based, where buffs and debuffs matter a lot here, especially in the latter half of the game.

Exploring is incredibly rewarding, as you often get various items that will either aid you further in exploring or battles. In Metroid's fashion, there are a lot of secrets to uncover and a lot of content is actually optional if you manage to sneak your way around somehow.

I highly recommend this if you're either into JRPGs, Metroid-likes, or both. There's even a demo that's very lengthy, and you can't go wrong with it.

Dying Flame is heavily a story-driven game with horror elements. You take in place of a man named James to wander around in a house of some sort to uncover the mystery behind it. You must light your way throughout the game in order to see and check the vastly interiors of this massive structure. However, there are some cases where you need to work in the dark to progress. As advertised, headphones are definitely recommended.

The game contains a lot of puzzles to solve. They vary in both type and difficulty. While the mandatory ones seem simple enough to solve, some are possibly far more challenging but not impossible.

There's also...something else that would tries to hunt you periodically, but the holes in the ground are a bigger threat to me than that... Better watch your step...

Forager is surprisingly the most addictive action-survival game I've faced.

Venture through your own lands as it generates many things. Said things include materials, food, and enemies; and they, too, vary with the biome (land type) it is spawned on.

Most things you do will reward experience. As you gain levels, you can spec skills to unlock many, many things for the road ahead.

Build structures and use them to craft helpful items or for other purposes, like make more money or become an automatic defense system.

Lands you purchase also unlock various NPCs, other structures, and dungeons for further adventuring. NPCs give quests, some structures give treasure and bonuses, and dungeons have a similar style to 2D Zelda games.

If you like a mix between action, adventure, building, and crafting; this is definitely worth picking up.

This game is amazing in its entirety. You'll get way more than what it's worth on the store page due to the massive amount of content here. If you're not convinced, there's a free demo to try.

The story is amazing with its fantastic characters and the buildup to the end. There's no moment in the game I wouldn't feel bad meeting characters at many points due to each one's unique and interesting personality. The overall setting reminds me of .hack, and it would be very obvious why once you try it.

Gameplay is really tough. I've played and finished the game before version 1.0.1, which introduces difficulty sliders. The game can be beaten at its difficulty; but only if your reflexes can keep up for battles, especially on the second half of the game.

There are puzzles too in the mix to take a breather from the tedium of fighting enemies in a marathon. All puzzles can be solved in at least one way, but some have strict timing and others may need (but not require) unusual ways to solve.

Finally (and at the point of this review), the developers aren't finished yet. Some quests have not drawn the line yet and the current ending leaves an opening for additional post-game content once you beat the game. It will definitely take a while since it took them seven years just to finish the main story along with its overall content. I'll look forward to it!
