Not the perfect Total War game, but certainly the MOST Total War game, with the furious energy of bashing together action figures on a grand scale. I've been bought into the series since the beginning, so the breadth of options this game presents borders on overwhelming, but you needn't have everything to get your worth out of it. Even the core races offer diverse playstyles, and you need only dip your toe into the vast pool of DLC after you know if the game is for you or not.

Brotherhood is undeniably the high point of the Ezio trilogy. While geographically limited to Rome, the gameplay systems continue to evolve and expand, resulting in a game that feels much more diverse than its predecessors. Even the modern day stuff is as close to involving as the series has ever managed.

Fun and surprisingly complex. Even early on, with only a couple basic ship types, there is a lot of variety to the different load outs. A great game to play while listening to a podcast.

If you didn't play C&C back in the day, I can't promise this will float your boat. Even updated, these games lack a lot of the RTS niceties that modern games have developed. But if you have fond memories, there is no better way to revisit the campaign and multiplayer.

I've played over 400 hours, and could probably play 400 more hours, (assuming I have time before the third game comes out). It has the most varied and dynamic grand campaign of any Total War game, and it's great co-op, too.

Look, this game is hard. And not always in the satisfying way that other From Soft games are hard. The game is bad at teaching core mechanics, and the learning curve is practically a cliff. If anyone gets frustrated and gives up before the combat clicks, I can't blame them. Sekiro does itself no favours in the beginning.

That said...

Once you internalize the mechanics, the game opens up into one of the best combat systems I've ever played. The elegant back and forth dancing with bosses is hypnotic and satisfying to learn, even after numerous failed attempts. And the feeling of finally beating a boss is great in a way no other game can replicate.
