I am not a big gamer - most games do not captivate me. But this game is at least to me, a new and creative take on survival. It's been on my watchlist for several months now and so i bought it as soon as it became available.

For me, it's very likely game of the year. Everything is very tastefully done - there was real care put into this, and it shows. It's just you, adrift at sea, with a great white shark as a friend who wants nothing but to cuddle you in his stomach. I named him frank. There are endless franks - his love spans time and space. The game mechanics that are there, are complete.

A big thing for me in games, is being easy to put down/pickup. there are not a lot of complcated mechanics in this game to master. It's fairly casual, and I like that. It also runs very well - i've had zero performance issues.

Overall, it's worth the $20 to me. Easy.

The islands could be more useful/interesting. binoculars dont seem to actually do anything, same with candlebottle. Painting is not appealing, but it's good for creatives. Mac support would be nice.

There are two things I hope to see in this game; the first is more immersion. More things you would encounter at sea; like cold water, or dolphins to befriend, or drilling for oil/onboard motor. build a Submarine. Lots of things like that. But really, the thing I'd love to see is purpose. I played just cause 2 to completion because of purpose and the sense of completion. For this, maybe that means mapping out the ocean. or finding your parents - or any kind of civilization, or being rescued. or home! or some mix of all of that. I don't know. I know the former is maybe more appealing in many regards, but i'd personally love to see some purpose to being adrift at sea; i think everything that's in the game could aid you in that. That's what made me lose interest in minecraft as well as scrap mechanic; the lack of purpose. Having tools to build is one thing, having a reason to is another. Maybe something worthwhile of a DLC.

Anyway, 10/10. Exceptional idea, exceptionally done. Super happy with what i've got and what I can do now - would love to see so much more.

I've played this game a fair bit - and its one of the best co-op games I've played. Very immersive experience that I've enjoyed.

However, the devs dont know what they're doing. I've watched this game devolve instead of evolve, over the course of my playtime. I'm normally excited to see new updates for games, but for this I was always eye rolling. They did add one new map - skyball; which is... I think an attempt at getting rocket leauge people or something. It's really tasteless, and poorly planned and executed.

The game has potential, and the price isn't absurd. But I dont think any real potential will be reached, and i've seen the active player count drop over time.

I wish I could recommend, and maybe things will improve. For now, I'm just not feeling it, and really would not recommend this to anyone if they asked me if they should pick it up.

Imagine buying diablo and there are only 5 levels of dungeon - As others have said, this game does have a good enjoyable core - but once you break free of that, which is not hard, it gets pretty dull.

After 100 or so passengers a day in endless, you stop gaining things. It just keeps going, but you can't aquire any more cars or tracks.

And while the design looks clean and simple; there are some very frustrating interactions. want to lay down the red track? first, select the red track then click on a station - oh wait, its laying down a blue track.

There are a lot of good things done well in this game - things I really think are worth celebrating - Attentions to details that I find really exciting, and a core concept that is beautiful and elegant.

I guess if anything, I would describe this game as such: a finished unfinished game with no updates in months. It's only fault is that there is not enough of it.

If you like building cool contraptions, or tinkering with redstone mechanics in minecraft, buy this game.

It's limited in featureset, but you can still build all sorts of things with whats there. I even started doing lets play videos for the game, because I just love it so much. Whats there is fairly polished actually - they have a really nice in-game manual, a nice (albeit sparse soundtrack) and look to be doing a weekly release cycle.

I have lots of different games I could play, but really I just like making things, and this lets you make some pretty crazy things. It's really an exercise of imagination and mechanical engineering.

So often I wonder... should I buy this game? I admit I'm often dissapointed. But if you checkout some of the videos, and you think any of that looks super awesome, you'll enjoy it. But give it time to be polshed out, it's clearly just getting started.

So, i've been waiting years for this game to come out. I was a huge fan of JC2 and went all in on JC3. JC2 did a lot of things well, and JC3 looked to build off of that. But there are definetly issues, and I would not recommend this game to anyone until they are addressed.

1. The game takes forever and a day to start. and THEN it has to "login", which also takes forever. I clocked it at 1min30S to get to the ACTUAL menu that lets you start the game.
2. they want you to submit support issues to a terribly designed, unusuable support portal. what a joke. I'm happy to communicate issues instead of write a bad review, but their support portal is truly terrible and is more a hommage to support, like its an obligation, than a portal that is serious about fielding support and feedback. Needlessly beurocratic and specific, when all you should be giving me is a big textbox. That raises questions for me about how serious they are about making this a great game and listening to user feedback; because it's the same kinda ♥♥♥♥ you'd expect from EA.
3. Its 'E' to get into a vehicle, but good luck figuring out how to get out of a vehicle. maybe it's apce? maybe it's W, or A? one of them seems to do it eventually, but it's not at all what i would normally expect or do.
4. the tutorial system, meant to clarify how to use the game, manages to be confusing. JC2 had one too, but it was a good one. It's unconnected from what you need to do, not clear, and more annoyance than helpful. really really wish this was better, because they've done better in the past; which makes it so frustrating. I don't know how you could create this and use this and think its overall a good idea.
5. can't `esc` to exit map. MUST hit tab again. boo. can't 'esc' to exit menu, have to hit...CTRL??? who designes this nonsense?
6. 'F' used to be grapple in JC2, now is explosives. have made that mistakemany many times. Perhaps more an annoying learning curve, but equally its annoying that keybindings would change so much between versions; makes going between JC2/JC3 painful. But, its not like the change is illogical; grappling is now considered a primary action, in place of the weapon switch.
7. GET RID OF THE SOCIAL. I want MULTIPLAYER not some nonsense leaderboard against people I don't know or care about. If I can't play with my friends, it's a single player game. Who thought this was a good idea? Really? because they should be fired.
8. No way to start the game in offline mode, or skip login, or anything. i never want to be online with this game!

If/once the above issues are fixed, I can recommend the game, because it is otherwise a good game. They focused on fun and not restrictions, and it shows. There's lots to love, to be honest. But, the above issues are not nothing, sans #6. They improved the drops so you can airdrop a few things, which I definetly wanted in JC2. So, they aren't just making a JC3 to milk the fanbase, but they are going to need to release fixes and patches to make this game better than JC2. Which, it can be, if they address the issues. If/when they do, I will update my review/recommendation.

When i first got this game, it was cool but seemed more tedious than anything. I had built some stuff, but lost interest.

But boy have the developers been busy! This game is AMAZING. So much cool things you can do. build a space elevator! make a moon base with landing lights! blow up a pirate ship! build a volcano lair. Have LCD's giving you a HUD of your ship statuses. What it does, out of the box, is ridiculous. Tack on a thriving modding community, with some really useful, interesting and fun mods and its easy to get hooked.

The planets look really good. Better than I'd expect. They feel like real planets! not just balls of crappy textures.

There are still some bugs; when i first started playing again I was falling through the planet every time I went digging. But, really thats been it for the most part, and planets are new so thats to be expected.

Honestly, I feel like I should have to buy the game again. the devs behind this have done so much work, and put so much thought into how you can combine things. "I wish I could..." and "I wish there was a way to..." are terms the game was built on. And it shows.

It has a learning curve; it's not terrible, but it could be better. f1 (shortcuts overview) helps a lot. There are programmable blocks, and they use C#. I'm a dev and I don't know C#, nor do I want to. But with the workshop you're ablke to install scripts other people have written, and just use those.

Oh, and you can build a ship, spend a lot of time on it, and then save it as a blueprint, or copy / paste THE ENTIRE THING and then go use the copy to explore and possibly destroy. You can even bring blueprints you built to other servers.

Servers are able to run mods, and some have quite a lot! but you don't need to download them first, it does that when you connect.

If you're not sure, checkout some youtube videos of the gameplay. It's certainly more sandbox than survival, although i expect that'll get better over time. I play on a survival server but use creative mode to build things, one day i'll try to survive and mine more, but for now just making awesome space things is fun.

Honestly, this raises the bar for videos games for me. It's not perfect, but it's very well planned out, and clear the developers really want this to be a GOOD GAME and will do whatever it takes to get there. You really don't see that alot these days, studios that truly care are hard to come by. When my friend was first shwoing me all the new stuff they added, I lost track of how many times I said "no way!". It really is hard to believe they could do all this.

So please, give these folks your money. They really do deserve it.
