So good I bought it twice!

As someone with over 1000 hours in Victoria 2, I'll simply say this: This is not Victoria.

The huge depth and complexity of the economic system is gone. The global market no longer exists, instead there are many local markets that only interact with each other via manual trade routes. Every nation is also essentially a command-economy at all times (even nations like the US) and pops (capitalists) can longer construct buildings on their own.

Warfare is practically non-existent. For some reason they decided to have WW1 style front-lines for the entire game where all you do is watch a bar move left or right with only 1 battle happening at a time. There's no movement of units at all, every army simply teleports to the front-line they're assigned to.

Countries also have next to no depth to them and they all play pretty much the same way, this includes primitive African tribes and nations like Japan since they removed the westernisation and decision systems completely.

On the other hand, the game looks very pretty. The art style is quite fitting and looks good. Being able to actually see cities grow as you build stuff in them is a nice feature. The music is also very good. But this does not make up for the shallow gameplay.

In conclusion: A good looking but shallow game that lacks almost all the things that made Victoria 2 great. I'd recommend waiting for patches/DLC/mods to improve the game before you buy.
