No this is not the future of VR, because VR is just in it's very early stages. This is however by far the best game I've played in VR, and that is by no means only thanks to the awesome physics engine. The music is amaazing and the world is beautifully made and even though I've completed the story I feel like I've barely scratched the surface. I've never been so immersed (and scared) by a VR game and I just wan't to play more and more. The physics engine makes just traversing through a level or picking up ammo fun but it would be worthless without this incredible world and I can't believe there's no large studio behind this. There could be a more advanced storyline but trust me this is not just a tech demo. But let's adress the core engine:

This game really makes no compromise for player comfort, personally I have no issues at all but a lot of people are reporting getting a lot of motion sickness from this game. The joystick locomotion might be a dealbreaker for some people, but personally I think that is basically the only way to do fast paced games like this and people are gonna have to get used to it for games like this. There is of course also a lot of large scale motions and climbing, but your body also moves around from things like pushing on a wall. And your in game body doesn't always match up with your real body, which might be disorienting for some people.

But I don't think this game would be as incredible without this, and I absolutely love it. You can interact with your environment exactly how you expect and want to. This is true to some degree for all VR, you no longer press buttons and have set animations to for example pick up ammo. But this game takes it to the next level. I'm still in awe everytime I break an ammo box and just effortlessly push a few planks aside with my crowbar. If something is out of reach you can just drag the whole shelf down, or move some boxes to climb onto and use your axe to get some extra reach and pull yourself up over a ledge. All the puzzles and interactions are so satisfying with this system. Fighting is super fun and never the same.

But as I said at the start, I don't know that this is the future of VR. This level of realistic locomotion might be too advanced and daunting for the standard of VR, they state that this is for advanced user and that is true. There's also a slight lack of polish in the engine but that is to be expected this early on in VR development. And it's nothing that pulls me out of enjoying the game at all. I'm super glad that they went this route not only because I personally enjoy it a lot but it's also great that we get a variety of games. Half-life:Alyx will no doubt be a game that's easier for everyone to enjoy since it's built around teleportation. But there also has to be games like this.

This is not only the most impressive VR interaction I've seen to date, but it is also the best gaming experience I've had in years. And that is thanks to an amazing studio putting hard work into every little detail of the game, the audio and visual design is phenomenal and the gameplay is the most fun I've had with a singeplayer experience for a very long time. You are doing yourself a huge disfavor if you're not at least trying this out.

I started playing this game yesterday and i was immediatly caught. All i wanted to do was play Mirror's Edge, it's so beautiful and looks so good. The story gets you involved in the game in a great way. And the whole jumping around the city part is so super funny and cool. I finsihed it today and i was just stunned in the credits thinking about the game and the ending. It had been an amazing experience. Even though this game sometimes is a bit difficult and you sometimes get stuck i recommend this game for anyone who is looking for a great game :)
