I really can’t recommend Dying Light: The Beast. I wanted to enjoy it, but it ended up being a big disappointment. At this point, I’ve pretty much lost hope that Techland will make a truly great game again — the last one I actually liked was Dying Light 2.

To be fair, the game looks good. Visually, it’s solid. But some parts of the story presentation feel very strange. There are moments where the game suddenly switches to cutscenes shown from an outside camera, and instead of experiencing things through our character’s eyes — as you normally do in first-person — you end up watching your own character from a completely external angle. It feels awkward, almost like we’re suddenly the cameraman, not the player. Personally, it really broke the immersion for me.

The map design is another big issue. Getting around is frustrating and often feels poorly planned. Combat is also extremely weak: even on Story Mode, lower-level enemies dodge almost every attack, making fights feel pointless and annoying. Enemy placement is messy, and the story overall feels rushed and inconsistent. Some parts honestly feel like they were written without much care or logic.

Parkour is also very underwhelming. There’s barely any satisfying movement, and what exists feels weak compared to what you’d expect from a Dying Light game.

BEAST Mode is probably the only part I actually enjoyed. It’s fun, although it definitely needs more features and more skills. It’s okay — just limited.

Optimization is average. Not terrible, but far from great. I even have a bug where the game refuses to save some of my graphics settings, which gets annoying fast.

Another thing I personally dislike is the presence of guns. It kills the atmosphere for me. It would’ve been great to have an option to disable firearms entirely when starting a new run.

Overall, it feels like Dying Light: The Beast didn’t get nearly the same amount of development time as Dying Light 2. It released fast, and sadly, it shows. The story especially feels rushed and unfinished.

If you haven’t played Dying Light 2 yet, I definitely recommend that instead — it’s still the best experience in the series.
