Got this game to play with a few friends, and to be honest... I'm not a fan of horror games, but I gave it a try. Luckily for me, this game isn't scary in the slightest.

Most of the time I just dryly went through the levels searching for the thing that made my sensors go "beep", and then once I DID find it, it felt like random odds whether or not the ghost would cooperate in any way to get tasks completed. I don't know if that's a product of the voice detection or how the game's programmed to respond, but either way it just felt tedious to play. The tiptoeing that passes for a run speed doesn't help, it makes me feel like I'm an old man in a walker rather than a paranormal investigator.

Being caught by the ghost feels like random chance as well, even when precautions specific to the type of ghost are taken - or you're just caught in a corner when the hunt starts and have no place to take advantage of the "improved hiding mechanics". And half the time insurance from other players photographing your corpse doesn't seem to work (maybe the insurance adjusters just think you're napping?). On top of that, the death animation, the spooky "reward" for getting killed that should be the apex of the horror in this game, just isn't scary. A ♥♥♥♥♥♥-up looking model walking slowly toward you in a root cellar isn't scary - though considering they walk faster in that cutscene than you can in the rest of the game, maybe that's where the scare is supposed to come from?

Overall, I've tried to make the most of this game several times, with friends who are really into it, and I just can't find the appeal. It leaves me bored and annoyed more than anything. Maybe the mechanics really speak to someone else but I just don't find it keeping my attention, even with other people involved. If you want a more engaging horror experience, watch Spongebob Squarepants's "Graveyard Shift".

The multiplayer has serious issues with random disconnects at the start of games, and matchmaking seems to be primarily, if not exclusively, through UPlay rather than Steam (which kinda defeats the purpose of having it on Steam imo).
