I tried. I really tried to give it a fair chance but this is unbelievable. I should love this game. The Environments are beautiful, amazing Character creator, combat feels responsive and fun. However, the pacing, writing and world building in this game is atrocious.

Character personalities are all flattened and soulless. You zip around the world instantly with no build up or context of the pace you are headed, outside of a quick exposition and in turn it makes you feel like you've stepped into an amusement park rather than going on a grand adventure. The first character you recruit is a perfect example. For instance, the dialogue makes it sound like finding and saving her is going to take a bit of work and then "BAM!", you find her two seconds later after the previous scene faded to black. There is no build up as to why Rook is awesome or competent, they just are. In Origins the Hero had to survive their initial trial, then the joining, then the battle of Ostagar during the Blight. Rook? Who knows because all we get is the character talking to themselves about what happened instead of letting the player EXPERIENCE THEM. Really disappointing. Maybe if I were new to the series I would have enjoyed the game but, unfortunately for me, I made the mistake of being a long time fan. If you are enjoying the game, continue doing so. Nothing wrong with that. If you're someone who is on the fence and looking for an RPG, there are way better offerings from the past two years to pick up.
