Shroud of the Avatar is the greatest game I have played in years. I didn't think I'd like the muliplayer (I normally don't), but I found the community hugely welcoming and friendly, and much more mature than most MMOs. I've been playing since Pre-alpha release 3 or so and the game has come a long way. I love the direction its headed but am still awaiting the story to be added towards the end of development - with Tracy Hickman and Richard Garriott writing it I have high hopes!
