Got all achievements in this game a few days ago and it was a really great time. It's like if Red Dead Redemption 2 was more like a GTA game than necessarily focusing on hyper realism with everything. It's quicker to move around in this one and you don't have to worry about eating, feeding your horse or wearing the right clothes for the weather or what part of the map you're in because your base of operations moved before you knew it.
While the lack of a slow initial burn doesn't quite result in the masterpiece of story-telling that Red Dead 2 became, it was still worth it to experience the continuation of the Marston family, as a person who played RDR2 before RDR1.

The game can still look really great on Ultra settings with colour saturation turned up a little. It was a joy riding horses between mission-start locations to explore the scenery, only until late in the game did I start using fast travel.

The Undead Nightmare expansion is the comedy part of the package where you play as Señor Marston who is provided more and even better opportunities to go crazy with the guns and trample enemies with horses to save America and Mexico.

Very addictive and fun cleaning simulator with interesting story beats. Those who have played Viscera Cleanup Detail will know what to expect in terms of gameplay as that feels like a tech demo for this game. You will explore different set locations while cleaning up any blood you see, destroying evidence and re-arranging furniture in order to make it seem like nothing out of the ordinary happened there.

What really helps this game work is that the locations would still be fun to explore even if you didn't have to clean up or do anything. They all have secrets, collectibles and money to find but they also have interesting scenery and varied rooms to unlock within each map.

Before each mission you are given the gist of what happened, but it was also fun to slowly but surely piece together exactly how everything must have happened by discovering recordings, notes, weapons and the state the bodies are in as you mop and scrub everything.
You get money at the end of each mission and the boss considers any money/loot you find as a tip to you. Money is used upgrade a pretty extensive list of abilities which you will need so the later levels don't take forever. After finishing the last mission I still did not have enough points to upgrade everything so you'll need to upgrade the skill trees you deem most useful along the way. After the end you can replay any mission again and unlock remaining skills and achievements that way.

My main point is a proper game has been built around the Viscera Cleanup Detail concept and the result is fantastic. I nominated this game for the 'Sit Back and Relax' Steam Award!

About 20 years ago when my parents separated I would stay at my father's apartment every so often where he would always have the latest newspaper. I used to always grab it and go to the end where there was a section for video game reviews. The games were rated out of 5 stars and the available platforms to play those games were shown next to the ratings at the top. The platforms for each game would be either PS, xbox or gamecube and I would wish that I had one of those to play these games that were rated 3 or 4 stars out of 5, the PC platform was rarely shown. By this time our N64 was gone but there were still computers at both my parents' places.

One day in that section of the newspaper I came across a review for the game Half-Life 2. The only platform shown at the top was "PC" and it was the first full 5-star rating I saw. The review was full of praise of the game, one of the things I remember it saying was that the characters look and behave very realistically.

I asked my father to buy it for me for Christmas that year and he agreed. Steam says I created my account on December 24, 2004, so it must have been a bit before that time that we went to EB Games and saw the price, from memory it was $60 (Australia). My dad asked me if we should just buy it there or should we try and find it cheaper somewhere else. I said we should see if it's cheaper somewhere else. We then went to BIG W in the same shopping centre and they did have it for cheaper, I think the difference was $10.

The staff member went away and came back with the game asking my dad if that's correct, he said he doesn't know and he should ask his son (me), the staff member showed me the game and I said yes that's correct. Twenty years later I still have it and I've uploaded photos of it here on Steam.

I'm trying to dig into the deep valleys of my memory right now, but I do remember putting the disk in, and it asking me to create an online account. That frightened me a little and put me off installing the game for some time, I don't know how long. I must have ended up doing it on December 24th and now I wish I would have just done it right when we brought the game home so I can get the 'Years of Service' badge on Steam sooner!

Anyway, it was the first mouse+keyboard shooting game I ever played, using the WASD keys to move and aiming with the ball mouse was strange for me at the time but I persevered because the game looked absolutely amazing and the world was so interesting. When there was a loading screen I would just sit patiently waiting even though it took about 10 minutes. I remember one of my dads friends came over with his daughters who were much older than me. I don't remember how exactly but they found out I was obsessed with this game called Half-Life 2 and one of the daughters asked if she could watch me play. She sat next to me watching, I remember her getting spooked by the antlions and me reassuring her it's OK because I have the bait that makes them friendly, and when I held the mouse button to continuously swing the crowbar at the face of the female scientist, we exploded in laughter when that NPC slowly but surely drifted her eyes to us XD

I also remember a puzzle in the game, where you have to swim to one side to drain the water so you can swim to the other side to reach the top? Something like that, but I remember when playing the game for the first time, there was a section I didn't know how to pass so I got pretty much all the barrels from the top, dropped them to the bottom section, and stacked them like a pyramid to jump to the other hole at the top. It took me hours because the barrels kept falling, but when I finally reached the other side, I was stuck and realised I was supposed to do something with the water. I'm sure people who have played it recently know what I'm talking about?

I also told many friends at school about the game, when I was talking about the ending I said "you die but you don't die" and they bursted out laughing at me, one of them kept saying that to me after that. One friend did end up playing it as well and he agreed with me that it was good. When we were talking about the game I mentioned that it doesn't matter how many times the enemy hits you at the beginning, you won't die, and he said yes because you don't even have a health bar.

I remember when finishing the game for the first time, I was reading the credits and trying to memorise the names of the people. Of course I didn't remember a single one but in my child brain I was thinking that if I ever came across any of those people I would thank them for making the game. I did the same for Half Life Alyx after finishing that on my Valve Index but there's still 15 years to go before I review that one.

Thank you for making the game and being a big positive part of my life.

Old game that's at least really pushing the line of what can be defined as shovelware. You play a boxer who tries to win 3 different tournaments. There are 6 different attacks, you can block and counter-attack, you earn money with each victory which you can use to upgrade stats, also training minigames which help with upgrades too. Just surface-level depth. I don't want to recommend buying this game, but if this ended up in your library and you just want to 100% it while farming the card drops, here is a good technique to blast through:

Go into Options, change the option on the bottom left to 'side cam', and in each fight, go back and forth (buttons 'A' and 'D') towards and away from the opponent while doing hook shots (buttons 'K' and/or 'L'). So, go close enough to the opponent so your punch can hit, hook shot, back away, go close again, hook shot, back away, repeat. The reason for backing away isn't just to avoid any potential attacks, but also to let your stamina recharge, so keep an eye on your stamina meter.

I didn't figure this out until I started going for the 'untouchable' achievement, which was after I won all tournaments and fully upgraded my stats. I then used this technique to get the other achievement for winning all tournaments without getting knocked down.

Another great looking open world with lots of stuff to do on the map, basically the Far Cry 3 formula again where you liberate camps while on your way to the next mission but it's in the 3rd person with mostly melee combat that I feel like is an advanced version of Ryse Son of Rome.
Main Quest and Side quest stories are interesting enough. It's weird though because I feel like I should have enjoyed the narratives of this game more than I did. The stories and characters probably tick all the boxes for what a big game needs but it still doesn't feel like something I haven't experienced before or something I needed to see.
The multiplayer is much better than I expected, it's just PvE modes but it's a lot of fun unless you get carried by someone spamming WITSTILADAMALAKAWA over and over again XD
The more multiplayer you play the more gear and cosmetics you unlock, all that good stuff.

A 3D platformer where the challenge comes from trial-and-error as you find out what sporadic obstacles will appear from off-screen and when, while also dealing with the unturnable camera that is angled just perfectly so the spots where you have to jump and land feel intentionally ambiguous. Levels are designed to irritate and frustrate so as to hide the game's embarrassment from restricting you to a rigid on-rails viewpoint.

It always feels like luck still needs to be on your side to make jumps and attack enemies you have done before, and I don't know if it's because the controls are weirdly precise or a unique kind of clunky.

It certainly looks nice and I'm sure it has provided many people with blissful nostalgia, but it's also a good thing that video games have come so far.

The game crashes every ~45 minutes even after downloading dpfix, sweetfx, running the .exe in compatibility mode, running it in borderless windowed mode and whatever else I did, but wow I just finished it after having it in my backlog for years and this was one of the more emotional experiences I've ever had. It has sort of ruined my day, I can't stop thinking about these characters and feeling sorry for what happened to them, thinking about the times that were had with them before the ending and different things that could've been done to save them (even though this is a game with a set story).

Game is very clunky and dated in pretty much everything from combat to visual presentation. It's a sort of open-world environment you'll be navigating, it has a lot of pop-in but if you do two particular side quests you'll get a radio that will let you fast travel to destinations you have reached prior. The game will crash every now and then in the later stages of the game and no one seems to know why. I happened to consistently get a crash at a specific point in the game which stopped occurring after I used a cigarette to advance game time by almost 2 hours, so try using a cigarette if you're in the same position.

Even with all that I had to see this through after starting it, the characters were always human but also quirky, and that story just kept getting more and more compelling as it went. Honestly for me it was heartbreaking to witness all of that which happens at the end. The story is so bizarre yet it was still so immersive and profound. The closure that the final scenes delivered was really touching and made the game absolutely memorable.

Just wanted to vent about this.

Really fun and gorgeous platformer that takes you on an emotional journey. Nothing overly sad, just an illustration of the ups and downs of life, including funny moments.
You play as a caricature made of sewing thread that sort of looks like a humanoid-koala as he collects lost threaded-badges that represent memories or certain events of the lives of one or more of the humans that occupy that house. The realism of the graphics and physics of the world is motivating and rewarding for exploring and solving each puzzle.
If this game has ended up in your backlog, make sure you get around to it.
