One of my old favorites. I love playing this game. It's hard, full of tiny details that leave you strategizing like crazy. It might be a bit too hard to pick up at first but when you get the hang of it, especially resource and research management, you can appreciate how fun it actually is. The graphics looked really good back then and even so today (well, it has its charm for me). Recommend all the way.

Early Access Review
Fired up the game, saw that multiplayer and modding was disabled in this game that's been on early access for 1.5 years and asked for a refund because I feared that it'd remain in early access hell like most of the other early access games I've previously purchased - one of the top negative reviews especially confirms my reservations. I won't comment on gameplay as I've played the single player campaign for a few mins then got bored so I haven't played enough to give an accurate review on this point.

Early Access Review
so many combinations, so many ways to play to explore - it's incredible. i'm genuinely in love with this game. its incredible and captivating visuals aside, the game's center of attraction for me is its gameplay.

in its current release, you fight in a single arena with random enemies spawning in waves with the sole purpose of realizing a face-to-face confrontation between their foot and your derrière. there are several types of enemies with varying strengths and weaknesses as well as a couple of bosses that spawn at specific waves.

enemies that get killed, frequently drop experience orbs. by collecting these orbs, you gain XP and eventually level up. on the first 3 level-ups, you change the weapon, shields and the ship itself from a pool of alternatives, each having specific strengths and weaknesses. after that, you can choose from various mods that can modify your weapon, shields, hull and other parts of the gameplay ranging from burn damage to friction. these mods are balanced in such a way as to not make you too OP at later waves. so, for example, a mod that increases the projectile count will also slightly decrease your fire rate in return. you'll have to carefully mix and manage different mods to develop different strategies and thus achieve high scores.

in a playthough, you can create some crazy builds, such as the following (i'll spare the build specifics as this is just a review and not a build guide):
- a ramming build where you go crazy on hull, regeneration and thrust mods and just bonk the enemies for some fun time for you and sad times for your enemies.
- a shockwave build where you pick the shockwave shield that lets out a damaging and weakening shockwave when it regenerates and then modify it to reduce its cooldown as much as you can. you then intentionally damage yourself, trigger shield cooldown and blast the enemies around you.
- a nuke build where you pick up missiles and the spectre ship. increase the projectile size like crazy with mods such as Heavy Bullet and then blast the inverse heaven out of your enemies.
- a minion build where you take the Swarm Construct ship and go ham on construct mods. your constructs will take care of everything while you try to grab the XP orbs with your (eventually) slow-as-a-snail ship.

even at this stage of its development, there are so many combinations to explore, it's extremely addicting. i'm loving every second of this game, even when i screw my playthrough up by accidentally taking up the Hidden Power mod that completely disables my weapons, no matter how modded they are, or when i find out bad combinations such as Heavy Bullet+Siege Weaponry (the former gives knockback, increases projectile size and damage and the latter gradually increases your fire rate but you take increasing hull damage - so you end up getting knocked back more and more, potentially losing the control of your ship).

thank you for this game, can't recommend it enough!
