A fresh new take on a classic, remade for modern consoles. Plenty of new content while still holding true to the original.

Update: The game is now fully released. I still cannot recommend.

I spent hours downloading the game after hearing from my friends how fun it is but the game simply does not work at all.

It immediately crashes after selecting wither option from the launcher. The game never loads or even attempts to load, just an immediate crash and the crash reporter showing up.

I am tired of troublshooting this, verifying files, updating drivers, etc. My head hurts and I can't get a refund at this point.

Save yourself the trouble and potential headache, wait for them to solve these issues first before buying.

I liked what little bit I played of this game, but is it worth putting a tenner in the pocket of the devs after the stunt they pulled?

No, lol.

Has a lot of bugs, little to no in game info on how to do a bulk of the activities and barely any more help to be found online.

The looting and survival elements are pretty fun but the inventory management system definitely needs work. Weird how you can carry 15 logs but not a single canteen because of odd weight constraints + limited inventory slots.

Crafting is okay but the menus are convoluted. Base building proved to be impossible as there is no info to be found on how to actually do it. I may be dumb but most games either have tutorial messages or are intuitive enough to figure out. This isn't one of those games.

An excellent game to get when it's on sale. I think it's best played with a friend and not taken seriously, though you can play online with random people.

It's very buggy and your game can easily break, which is why I suggest not taking it seriously, plus it is a comedic game.

Worth the laughter and chaos it presents, despite the occasional baby falling through the map.

Can only play the current build of the game for about 5 - 10 minutes before it starts to drop frames to an unplayable degree, even on the lowest settings. Playing on a fresh install with no mods. For context I can play Baldur's Gate 3 with little to no issues on my PC.

Neo Scavenger is a challenging rogue-like that pushes you to survive with whatever chance throws your way. Every step forward could mean a miracle of a find or certain death. A good, solid play that requires strategy and good old fashioned luck.

~

Neo Scavenger uses a turn-based RPG system of gameplay that sees you move your character over a tabletop of hexagons, each tile representing something from ragged abandoned cities, wide open fields, and whatever else lay dormant in the wasteland.

The gameplay is challenging and is almost purely strategy and luck. You need to make do with whatever you can find, even when it's practically nothing. The skill comes in knowing what to do with what you have. Though the game doesn't necessarily take it upon itself to point a few things out that could potentially save your life, you're going to need to experiment some with what options you have on screen. The user interface itself is a bit confusing at first but isn't terrible once you get the hang of it.

The visuals used are excellent and the pixel art for things like objects, enemies, and landmarks are all easily discernible from their sprites alone. Even your own player character will eventually start to look like a real bonafide survivor after not too long, the rag tag mashup of loot, weapons, and accessories included. Cut scenes use their own original art for each one.

The soundtrack adds a brooding atmosphere to the game, one fitting a world where everything is in tatters and nothing is new. Other than the soundtrack, sound effects mainly come from moving or using items. Not much else makes noise and their is no audible dialogue.

All in all, this is a great, solid game that anyone with a taste for surviving, scavenging, and strategising could get into.
