Although I don't think Subnautica is particlarly innovative in the survival genre, it still does an exceptional job with its underwater setting and sci-fi presentation. Not many games have such an immersive, mysterious, and terrifying world to explore. There's even a suitable story progression that's not intrusive to gameplay, and can be followed at your leisure.

It took me around 40 hours to complete the game, and although subsequent playthroughs don't offer different world layouts to explore, there's enough flexibility in the game that can warrent another playthrough, especially on perma-death mode.
