To start off with, I play and used to play a lot of MOBA-Games like DotA or LoL. Additionally I already played TOME before the release on Steam, therefore I am adept to this game and write this review in the viewpoint of an experienced player.

Once they announced a client version for Steam, I was very excited about it. Not only it will raise the awareness of the game, I also don't need to use the browser anymore. So overall nothing possibly can go wrong, or can it? With the Steam release, they not only add a new 5vs5 map, they also add some changes. But it doesn't affect the game at all.

Guardians (Equal to Champions in LoL)
  • Very plain, fast to understand and easy to play
  • No mana and only one kind of damage (no difference in physical or magic damage)
  • In four roles segmented (Slayer, Tactican, Pusher, Tank)
  • You don't need to skill abilities (at level 1 are three of four skills are available, with hitting Level 6 all)
Above are mainly the good points and because it is a free to play game, not all Guardians are available. There is a rotation of free to play Guardians each week, which include (as far as I know) at least one of each role and one of each domain (there are six domains, where all Guardians are devided to). Good thing is, currently all Guardians cost now the same, sadly it's too high. At the beginning you are able to unlock some fixed champs for free, otherwise you need around 5$ or around 100 Games to unlock just one Guardian. At least you can try every Guardian for free in a pratice match. So test it before you buy it.

Gameplay
  • No last hit needed, gold and exp are shared to nearly guardians in range of the killed minion
  • Tower using an overheat system, once overheated you free to dive for a short period of time
  • Matches are mostly fast (10-20 min, depended on which map)
What I mostly like is that you don't need to concentrate on last hits and outzoning is also kinda difficult. From there it's hard to get an advantage and you depend more on your own skills.
They changed with Steam release the tower from an ammunition to an overheat system, it's rather similar but somehow the overheat system lacks at clarity. A lot of times I think the tower is overheated though it's not and so the other way round. Don't know it's only me, but I like to see some better overheat effects.
They also increased the damage dealt by the towers, what you punish more for too aggressive playing. Good thing about it, they get rid of constant backdooring, which was annoying and didn't let you really come back into the game.

Items
  • Like the Guardians, simple and easy to understand
  • Three base items which can upgrade to items with unique effects
  • Cost all the same (500 gold for the base, 500 gold to upgrade)
  • You can shop all over the map and have the option to autobuy
This is what I hate mainly with MOBA-Games I try to play, there are way too much Items. Not only it affect the balancing, you need a lot of times to become acquainted with it. With TOME I didn't have these struggles so it let me love the game from the straight beginning. I still don't know why you are able to buy more than one item with a unique effect, but I think it is just a matter of time when they will change it.

Altogether I recommend this game to everyone, not only to those who likes MOBA-Games. This game is very beginner-friendly, not only because it is easy to understand, the tutorials in the game are greatly helpful. Even though the matchmaking could make it too hard or way too easy for you at the start, it will established and you should experience great PvP-Feeling.
