I will focus mainly on Shadow Generations portion of this package since its the main selling point and because Shadow is one of the most important characters in all fiction to me. It is recommended that you check out Sonic X Shadow Generations: Dark Beginnings animation that's on youtube and not in the game for some reason before playing.

The ultimate expansion
There was a point in time where I lost all hope for this series. Having my favorite characters become a parody of what they used to be, stories that were afraid of taking themselves seriously and embracing what they were, self deprecating humor that showed to me they were embarrassed of what made me love the series in the first place... When Sonic Frontiers released my hope hasn't just been rekindled, it was in flames, and I am happy to say the fire keeps burning in my heart with Shadow Generations.

The game itself took me 5 hours to finish which I fully expected and is okay since there's still bunch of collectables to find and leaderboards to conquer until hackers reach the goal ring in 0 seconds or something. I enjoyed the story and moments that were there, but the ending felt so sudden. It feels like its missing on a conclusion, after credits scene or something and no, original Generations doesn't make up for it.

Behold the ultimate power!
Shadow finally gets a second proper gaming experience dedicated to him and him alone. This time you have a fully explorable hubworld that you can interact with, along with very lengthy main levels that are bursting with visual spectacle and branching paths.

For the first time since Sonic 06, Shadow feels different to control and play compared to Sonic, they finally decided to get creative. Speaking of which, there are also new powers Shadow gets, and they're all fun to play except for one which I'll mention later.

Death to all who oppose me!
Boy oh boy the spectacle in bosses was so enjoyable to witness. Aside from Frontiers and now this, there has never been this level of ass whooping and I am all for it. Going full anime, Asura's Wrath style with Shadow is something I always fantasized and now it became a reality.

I enjoyed every single fight this game threw at me and I want more.

Negatives
- Trailers showed everything, there's no surprise to be had here minus the dialogue between characters.
- Why is Dark Beginnings not included? Why does Playstation get extended cuts while the rest of us have to use Youtube for it? What the hell guys?
- Some remixes really don't land, luckily you can pick what song you want in whatever stage you're playing.
- Squid. I hate the way it controls, it ruined so many of my good runs, I hate the hook mechanic it has, I don't want to git gud at using it, get it the hell out of here.
- The repetitive structure of Generations lives on as you can't go stage to stage but instead have to do side content to obtain keys and it kinda ruins the pacing. These levels aren't bad mind you, I just wish it was optional.

Conclusion
Give Shadow more games, please? He deserves them.

9/18/2024 EDIT:
I have 100% finished the game, and while it is playable and still has the incredible attitude and sense of humor, issues I listed remain. Worst thing aside from bugs in this version is definitely the music, it feels like they're using same two tracks in every single level and nothing stands out. Such a shame.

I have only played through the opening level, so I cannot comment about how the rest of the game plays. Lollipop Chainsaw is a hilarious hack'n'slash that I'd happily recommend, but this version judging from the very first level has problems that need to be addressed ASAP so I have to put a negative for now.

1. Movement feels off. Compared to the original release, controlling Juliet feels heavy. Her animations don't match the distance she travels, she slides all over the place, camera has a hard time following me at times, and I don't remember experiencing anything like this with the PS3 version.

2. Audio problems are present. From missing voice lines, muffled voices which I can't recall hearing before to music straight up stopping to play for no reason whatsoever, its very jarring and drags down the experience. Loading screen is dead silent too.

3. Cutscenes can and will desync for some reason.

4. Not gameplay related, but holy hell what is this game cover in the library. Could you get a more muffled, lower quality image, I mean come on, a quick google search and I can find a higher resolution picture of it.

Simply put, this game needs a patch. Nothing here is gamebreaking mind you, but to me these problems drag the experience down immensely.

Starting up the game and reading through the prologue while Liebestraum by Franz Liszt is playing in the backround, being hit with multiple shots of indoors and hearing raindrops while slowly realizing the scene isn't played in one character's perspective, this game immediately drops in a cozy yet mysterious atmosphere that dragged me in for a ride that left me eager for more by the end.

Unlike most novels I've seen, the main story in this one is as linear as it gets, there are no decisions to make whatsoever, you just sit back, relax and read while enjoying the music, visuals and voice acting. Its also one of the most cinematic VNs I'm aware of with battles that are done as well as they can be in this genre without becoming straight up animated cutscenes, and outside of battles you won't stare at character portraits looking directly at the player as much as I've seen in other novels, but will instead look at the scenery, characters being positioned to face someone off screen and similar.

Because I don't know jack about Type Moon or their other works, there are moments where I feel like I'm missing extra context for certain side characters, but WITCH ON THE HOLY NIGHT as a standalone experience works, although because I did play Melty Blood fighting game for a bit I still have some questions that I'm hoping to get answers for in the future.

Heads up, I will spoil some gameplay related stuff, I won't talk about what happens in the story itself.

Yakuza 7: Like A Dragon Ninja Gaiden - The Man Who Erased His Name
- is one of the shortest games in the series that's more of a setup for an upcoming adventure while showing stuff that happened in 7th entry off screen along the way. Despite being advertised as a bite sized RGG title and having a good time all the way through, I still can't help but feel like I've been overcharged considering the amount of content this game provides.

I am not talking about the story length, that was to be expected to be short, but I was hoping they'd make up for it by having a decent amount of side stuff and extras. This game does not have NG+, Legend difficulty, or any sort of Gauntlet/Climax Battle challenge mode, so once I was done with all side stuff I could possibly do, I can't find a good reason to ever return to it. So what unique modes are there?

Coliseum?
Yeah its not really a unique game mode, but the gimmick of this one is that you have group fights, your teams and you can play as a whole bunch of characters. That sounds all well and good until you realize majority of characters just kinda suck to play as. Even characters that used to have hype move sets have been bastardized, and I will never forgive RGG for what they did to Higashi from Judgment series in this game. Kaito is also there, but you bet he's nowhere near as good as he was in Kaito Files DLC for Lost Judgment. Sugiura is there too, and unfortunately, Yagami is too expensive so he's completely absent.

Demo?
When you finish the game, you will be granted access to the upcoming LAD 8 demo, This demo is fairly lengthy and lets you explore a lot more than I'd normally expect with a side story or two being available. This is cool and all, but in the future I doubt there'd be a reason to ever look at it for what it is so.... enjoy it until the real thing's out I guess?

If I could give it a mixed rating I would, I did have fun with it but its not an easy recommendation unless you're really into the series. I am sure I'd be way, WAY more forgiving if the damn thing didn't take 100GB of space, but as it stands, I see no reason to not uninstall it now.

While No Straight Roads: Encore Edition is a mechanically very simple boss rush kind of game which lacks polish in gameplay and overworld, its also the kind of game that lets the player enhance the soundtrack in a way I haven't experienced before. It's one thing to hit things while following the rhythm, but your actions add so many layers to the already great soundtrack to the point where simply listening to it can almost feel naked, and for that reason alone I can't help but recommend it.

BUNKA!

- Holy hell the music goes hard, and as previously mentioned your actions only add to it. There's an input that lets you charge the items which help you fight bosses, and while charging you will either shred the guitar or drum the hell out of, well drums. Boss attacks and parrying also have unique melodies.

- Art direction is great, there's not one visually boring moment to be seen here. The amount of artworks available is also insane, all of it looks great.

- Story was entertaining, characters were amusing and voice acting was good, though the tone kinda goes all over the place, but I don't mind it.

- Runtime is fairly short, one playthrough took me maybe 5-6 hours. After finishing the game you can replay bosses on harder difficulties and continue exploring the overworld for items and stuff that may come in handy during fights.

JUNKA!

- As mentioned before, lack of polish. When exploring you can very easily reach areas you aren't supposed to and see dead corners or cause a funny visual bug. While that can be shrugged off, I can't shrug off the fact that certain bosses have attacks which are very poorly made and can feel cheap. One boss for example shows a line on the floor which indicates where the attack will take place, but then the attack happens and the boss' animation hits like 1/3rd of the portion that was telegraphed and you can still take damage despite never colliding with the enemy.

- The game doesn't feel to be fully synced with the rhythm, and I refuse to accept the fact that there's a possibility my sense of rhythm is this bad. There are some attacks which can be parried and are supposed to be timed to the beat, but I always feel like they're few microseconds too late which ends with me being vulnerable and will most likely get hit. This is just made worse by the extra difficulty setting which is.....

- Perfect Parry mode. 1 hit kill for you, you have no ways of attacking besides parrying enemy attacks, and ranking expects the world from you if you want to show off how cool and handsome you are.

SHAKALAKA BAM!
No Straight Roads: Encore Edition isn't a game I'd replay for the gameplay, its the game I'd replay because the official soundtrack just isn't doing it for me without additional layers on top and because I think the game's an eyecandy. There is still fun to be had here despite all the issues, and I can say I was never bored by it. Would I consider it a rhythm game though? Ehhhhhh, sort of, kind of, but not really? You will need to be (or at least try to be) in sync for certain modes, but you are free to attack and move however, whenever.

Skullgirls 2nd Encore succeeds in making me feel like I'm playing an IP purchased and republished by 4kids.

Can't wait for firearms to be replaced by water guns, cigars by lollipops, name changes etc. It's a joke, which would be fine if the joke was kinda funny, but it really isn't, it's more sad than anything. I'm sure devs don't care since they're too busy counting money they're earnings with Skullgirls Mobile. Sure core gameplay may be the same, but I don't appreciate when someone decides to cover my eyes after a decade.

Is this a fun as hell rhythm game that is easy to pick up and absolutely mental to master?
Yes, you really get to feel the progress of getting good. It's addicting, and I want to have a game like this wherever I go.

Does it offer something other than pure gameplay?
Nope, the opening is the only sort of adventure you'll have with the gang and even that's beyond underwhelming compared to CG openings I've seen from past games. I wish it had something similar to Guitar Hero 3 where you start from the bottom and end by beating some evil Devil Goat guy in a contest, at least that's the kind of vibe I got from old intros. none of which are available for viewing here.

Will you enjoy it if you aren't a fan of Vocaloid?
I never was, it was never my cup of tea, but for me these songs work in context of a video game way better than if I were to just play a music video in a browser. Takes some time to get used to the voices, but once you do you'll realize there are tons of bangers (and stinkers) in here.

Any bugs?
Stutter that gets you randomly and especially when you're about to perfect a difficult song after hours of practicing. No idea what causes it, but its frustrating and is the only major problem I encountered.

Which version to buy?
VIP, you get truckload of songs cheaper than if you bought it individually. Beware of "unlock everything" DLC though, it will automatically unlock like 50% of your achievements and only sense of progression you could feel in this game by purchasing costumes will be gone, and achievement hunt will be drastically shortened.

Keyboard or a controller?
Both are equally viable, keyboard is my way to go.

While this is a dope rhythm game all things considered, I have no idea how this series is going to evolve if it keeps focusing on gameplay only, especially since each entry is so similar in terms of mechanics, content and song lists. Because this is the very first game available on PC, its a no brainer to recommend it, but what comes after (or if we get anything at all) is what I'd be slightly worried about.

On the surface this is a fun action RPG with corny dialogue, but main character is so good that he makes this not just the best Final Fantasy game, but also probably peak of gaming when it comes to main protagonists. He's Cool, hella awesome, outstanding, superb!

10/10 would bring an arsenal of oversized weapons just to punch and stomp enemies bare handed again.

The game lived up to its title, after downloading patches, trying to manually tweak stuff and searching up any way to make the damn thing work, I failed.

If this is the kind of quality I can expect from future re-releases/remakes from RGG, then I hope Kenzan never sees the light of day in the west.

Wake up samurai, your port burns!
Stuttering, texture popping, visual glitches, all of these were present at every moment when I played through Ishin.

All of this is unacceptable, but it gets worse. Because original Ishin was an old engine game and was made for PS3, you know what this means? They didn't even bother fixing the minigames so whenever you play one the framerate will lock to 30fps, and I hate it. Because this is the very first RGG game made in Unreal Engine, you'd think they'd take their time to iron out some problems but, no, they didn't bother.

What were you thinking samurai, shameful display!
Okay so the port sucks, but what about the game? I'll just say it straight up, I never thought original Ishin looked all that great. I wasn't feeling the atmosphere, gameplay looked mediocre and casting made it look more like an organized stage play featuring all the characters rather than a samurai game.

Well guess what, casting is somehow even worse in this remake. In their blinding wisdom, RGG decided to cast a big bad guy from Y0 as your friend, a brother in arms, and I didn't buy their relationship for a single second which means I was already taken out of the story from the very beginning. The twist can't work like this. The rest of casting is also very questionable, especially compared to the original, so I've no idea what they were thinking here.

But okay, forget the story, is gameplay any good? Well....... no, I wouldn't say so. And weirdly it feels like they tried to please Y0 and Y:LAD fans the most because after all these two games are most newcomer friendly entries to the series. But I wasn't pleased, I was just confused:

- You have 4 styles, but you can't style switch as far as I know. You either have high damage without mobility, or mobility without damage, if there was a way to mix between styles during combos I can see this working, but you can't so it just felt awkward. On top of that enemies are spongier than ever, and sometimes they even have armor. Thanks a lot Ishin.

- The game took cards which were exclusive to a certain game mode in original and implemented them in core gameplay. Why? I don't know, to please Y:LAD fans with all these wacky game breaking powers? I don't understand why this is a thing, these powers worked in Y:LAD because its protagonist is a gamer, he's insane, he sees things no normal people can see, and you can't convince me that Sakamoto Ryoma was pro gaming in 1800s. I see people arguing how Yakuza was always like this, but that's just wrong. There's a difference between being subtly over the top and being flat out ridiculous, and this game goes for the latter approach. It just doesn't feel all that special anymore when its so common. And yeah, Majima had his shadow clones in Y5, but imagine if every character had a power like that in it. Wouldn't make Majima look all that special don't you think?

- This game is a grind, a lot more compared to previous entries, all the time it felt like I was going through a checklist rather than playing a game and enjoying it. And you know what, fine, this is a ME problem, I could just ignore stuff and move on with the story, fine.

Cover your eyes samurai, we must not offend!
Oh wow look at that, censorship, in 2023, who could've guessed.

The infamous bathtub QTE has fog effect applied to it so heavily to the point where you can't see what's going on in the slightest. If you thought this was problematic, why not just remove it or come up with a new QTE, you don't have to cover my eyes, I'm an adult.

This change is already pretty pointless but I'm not done yet, there's a substory in original which was about lets just say a very specific group of people that got removed here due to it possibly offending someone. However, one substory that's in this remake in particular sticks out to me, and it was the one where some guy wants you BADLY, so he chases you and you have to escape. Sounds familiar? Yeah, its just like that one mission from Y3 that got removed in a remaster due to chaser's..... appearance. Listen RGG, if you're gonna make fun of video game people, then make fun of everyone, there should be no exceptions. So lame.

Go back to training samurai, your sword is as durable as a toothpick!

So what do we got here? $60, poor performance, overall mediocre gameplay and censorship. And you know what, maybe this is all fine since majority of people can play Ishin in a language they understand, and if I don't like it I can always go back to playing the original Ishi- OH WAIT THEY REMOVED IT FROM THE STORES LMAO

Good thing I still own it physically, but if I wanted to play a samurai RGG game then I'd just boot up Kenzan anyway. I don't understand Ishin and the love surrounding it, and I especially wouldn't understand it coming from this remake.
