rip theory also functions as a framework for my linguistic anthropological study (see, e.g., McRuer2006; Kafer2013). A fusion of both critical disability theory and queer theory, crip theory functions as resistance to the heteronormative majority; consider Gregg Brooks’s (1993) proclamation, “Being Deaf and gay is a double pleasure, not a double handicap” (147). In my past research, I focused on cripping Deaf Queer literature by analyzing how deaf ontology (the state of being from a deaf body) enhanced the literature by contributing authentic voices (Moges2017). Through the lens of both intersectionality and cripping practice, this ontological perspective acknowledges researchers as well as their participants for their difference with respect to bodies, sexualities, and language (in this case, ASL fluency).
