In March of 1956 a series of murders plagues a small area of Tokyo, where young women disappear only to turn up dead, limbs ripped from their body and wombs torn out. Private Detective Tokisaka Reiji infiltrates Ouba Private Girls Academy as a teacher to investigate the missing girls, for these series of murders resemble a case from six years ago, one that took the life of his beloved fiancé.

This psychological murder mystery is a refreshing take on the mystery genre, with a lack of whimsical plot twists and victorious feelings, Innocent Grey rather focuses on the atmospheric tone and themes of grief and mental illness in a rather fantastic way as this murder mystery will leave our characters with anguish, having to deal with the grief of losing loved ones. You will not feel success in your journey, victims already being lain to waste, our story will leave you feeling unfulfilled as we come to a close.

Atmosphere in this game lies within the beautiful graphics and gentle piano tracks, which serve to unease you. The carefully crafted but gruesome murder scenes will turn your stomach, which plays perfectly into the themes of horror and psychological torment. Even our beloved Reiji is victim to these scenes in select bad endings, which are seemingly unavoidable without a guide, which follows into my one complaint.

My one complaint being the difficulty. Completing this game without a guide is borderline impossible, as characters placements in parts of our world are unpredictable at points and inconsistent, which is especially annoying when those characters have important information you NEED to acquire for a "good" ending, so I would recommend a guide if you haven't already read this great series, luckily this is not the case for Cartagra ~Tsuki Kurui no Yamai~ (the prequel) and the Sequel episode to Kara no Shoujo.

I would highly recommend reading this game through the HD and Full Voices version of the game, as the original port is clunky, old and low resolution in 4:3, in which the HD version adapts to a 16:9 aspect ratio with beautifully re-drawn art (not upscaled, thank god).
