phenomenally Finnish, 'powder toy' meets 'terraria', roguelike gameplay

angeringly and brain meltingly unforgiving, but impossible to give up

10/10

MORDHAU, for me, has been a largely great experience. If you stay out of the chat and stay focused on the gameplay, it's pretty nifty. Exactly what I'd want and more from a "multiplayer medieval slasher". Chivalry doesn't hold a candle to Mordhau as far as the mechanical depth of the gameplay/combat. From what little the Chivalry 2 devs have shown, I doubt it will compare well either. Comparatively, Mordhau is penultimate.

However, if you do happen to even tune into the chat or manage to piss off the wrong fellow, you might start to see how toxic this game's community is. So many other people have said it before me, but the vote kick system and related systems that could potentially inhibit foul play are hardly effective. The toxicity on display on a regular basis is on par with, if not far exceeding, the sometimes overwhelmingly toxic R6 Siege community.

8/10, super solid game that's an absolute blast with your mates, but happens to have an extremely N A S T Y community.

I feel like this game gets a bad rapport. Don't get me wrong it's not perfect, but it's still worth picking up, just maybe not for full price.

The game looks really good visually, the sandy, dusty environments and the glinting heaps of scrap scattered throughout set up a wholly immersive Mad Max post-apocalypse. WB's mainstay melee combat system (Arkham, etc.) appears in 'full-swing' in this title. It's fun and responsive, but definitely not the most creative gameplay element.

As far as the story goes, I'd say I was about 70% invested in its progression; it's largely pretty good! But it definitely tapers off right near the end and leaves you disappointed, making your hours of upgrades and progression feel a lot less meaningful.

Disregarding the story, however, it's your fairly standard sandbox experience with a focus on vehicular combat and traversal up until you need to capture a stronghold, or whatever sort of location it may be, in which case you get out and the game becomes Arkham City for about 10 minutes. The driving feels good, your car feels heavy and powerful and the game makes you want to continue the gameplay loop to continue upgrading and pimping out your car so you can become an unstoppable god on the road. Sadly, when you've got most of the car archetypes and upgrades and most of the upgrades for Max, there isn't too much reason to keep playing. Worth the time I put into it, but not worth the retail price.

It isn't groundbreaking as far as open world samdbox games go, but they go the extra mile to feel like you are Mad Max from Mad Max in Mad Max.

A definite 5/10, worth a look if a bud has a copy or if you can snag it on sale.

A deeply competitive shooter that keeps you on the edge of your seat and in constant communication with your teammates. My main complaints and warnings would be about the often toxic playerbase and the annoyance that having to use Uplay (ubisoft's premiere launcher) can bring, as it can be somewhat slow. The varied operator abilities, units, and looks add a lot of individuality and uniqueness to the characters and their playstyles and capabilities. Otherwise, it's a game I always come back to for a good time strategizing with my team.

tl;dr :

CONS:
- toxic playerbase
- Uplay overlay can be laggy and generally clunky

PROS:
- fun, fast-paced
- very competitive
- fairly tight and responsive controls
- unique, interesting operator abilites
- communicative, team focus
