Early Access Review
It's a unique take on the factory building genre: there's an actual narrative driving the demands on your production. And while you're waiting for things to build, there's a lot to explore, and good rewards for doing so. Along the way, you're accompanied by Sparks who provides delightful commentary on everything you do, from finding certain caves to building a bunch of machines, and she has the perfect voice actor. I'm excited to see where this game goes!

It's an entertaining adventure, though it does feel a bit scaled back, coming from having played through Horizon's Gate. Numbers are smaller, damage formulas are much simpler, there are fewer status effects, and only a handful of maps. But those maps are filled with secrets. Some areas are only accessible after finding a special item. Some rely on you figuring out how the world reacts to your actions. The game's world is smaller, but it begs you to explore it, and rewards you well for it.

There's also a great foundation for modders to add new side stories. Modding capabilities have increased somewhat from Horizon's Gate. At the time of writing, the Workshop isn't available yet, but the developer is working on it, and there are some people already at work on mods in the Discord.

Don't go in expecting a story; you're just here to blow stuff up. The spell crafting system is a lot of fun once you've picked up a few runes!

It's a very silly game, but much of the silliness is unscripted up to your own creativity. Definitely worth playing.

It's a fun game that doesn't give you a lot of direction, but lets you discover powerful synergies.

This is a fun game, but kind of sets you up with the wrong expectations. It's not a farming game, it's action RPG with some farming thrown in. The game really don't hold your hand. You're expected to read everything as hints can be dropped in conversations.

I can't add much to the chorus of good reviews. It's a fun game with lots of opportunity for experimentation!

What I am here to tell you about is that it's also extremely moddable. Almost everything in the game engine is driven by data files that you can look at and tweak or override with a file in your mods directory. The developer is also extremely friendly and supportive of the modding community. If you find something that you're unable to do with the current modding capabilities, ask in the Discord and he's likely to add it for you. (Within reason, of course.)

A fun tactical RPG, even if it can become a little easy. If you've played its predecessor, Voidspire Tactics, you'll find that this game uses the same game engine but feels much more polished. (And if you haven't played Voidspire, I would recommend it as well!) Unfortunately, some of the game engine's charm seen in Voidspire doesn't get the chance to show through in Alvora: plants don't grow, and there are fewer interactions with the world.

Alvora almost feels like the roguelike version of Voidspire, which is very welcome. Voidspire is more story-focused, but sometimes you just want to do fights without worrying about story.
