The maps are absolutely gorgeous. Seriously, they're beautiful.

The gunplay is awful.

The movement is pretty clunky too.

You'll see people running in circles around each other awkwardly trying to shoot each other because the gunplay is so bad. You'll regularly clearly shoot someone and it won't register. It's one of those games that just doesn't FEEL good to play. Can't recommend when there's other attack and defend games that FEEL better to play, like the Red Orchestra/Rising Storm series. The mechanics are all there for this game, but nothing can save a game with bad gunplay and movement.

4 Reasons Not To Play This Game:

1. Most of the maps are horribly unbalanced. This has been a problem in Battlefield games for quite some time now. You don't even need to play the maps to tell. Just look at the overhead view and 4 out of 5 times you can tell which team will win based on the layout of the map.

2. This is one of those games where you will be saying "how did that not hit them" 5 times every minute. The hit registration is bad.

3. Hackers. Also a long running issue with Battlefield games. There are enough obvious hackers in this game to just kind of make it not worth it.

4. There's no way to filter out servers with bots in them. Why? I don't want to play with bots. Why can't I filter that out? I don't want to join a server, find out there's bots, disconnect, and load into another server to see if the same thing is going to happen.

There's also no one playing Rush. The Battlefield series is dead.

First game. Spawned in surrounded by enemies. No tutorial, so I had to quickly figure out how to use my magic. Magic did nothing to the enemies attacking me. Died. Started another round. Same thing happened. Uninstalled.

Bad. Just bad.

Don't waste your time.

As of February 2024 the multiplayer is dead, so if you're looking to play this with others, you're pretty much out of luck. Once or twice a week you might be able to find a single Nightmare mode game running so you can just sit back and let a maxed out player unlock loot for you, but that isn't very fun, is it?

You will randomly die. You can be on the other side of the level while your teammate is fighting a boss and you'll randomly be killed by that boss as you're trying to make your way back to the fight. If you actually make it back to the fight you'll either immediately be killed or frozen in place without the ability to cast a disenchant spell to free yourself, and then you'll die.

The levels can be maze-like and extremely frustrating to figure out where you're supposed to go.

If you want to play this game on your own, you can probably have a decent time making your way through the levels once, but it's going to be very tedious/repetitive.

Honestly, spend your money on literally anything else and you'll probably be happier. This game looks DOA.

UPDATE

Devs tried a major class re-work with an update. Movement still feels clunky, weapons don't feel like they're very effective, and the gameplay just isn't that fun. Oh, and the devs are banning people from the forums that bring up that the game's player base has plummeted since launch. Trying to suppress that negative press. So I think we can see where this one is headed.

..............................................

This game has a long way to go.

I don't normally fall for the Early Access thing, but I grew up with the movie and had just finished the novel when this game came out.

CONS:

- The optimization is HORRIBLE. I have all graphics set to low and it still lags to the point of being unplayable. The rounds start out with decent FPS, but the more bugs enter the scene, the worse and worse it gets. This should be the highest priority for the devs. The forum is full of people complaining about this.

- Everything feels clunky. The movement feels clunky and slow. The weapon swapping feels clunky. Reloading takes a geological age and you'll probably die while waiting. Firing the weapons feels clunky. Every gamer knows what it's like to play a game that just doesn't FEEL right. This is one of those games. You feel like you're moving in slow motion at all times.

- The base building grace period is like 1 minute long before you can't build anymore and massive hordes come in, so a lot of the time your base isn't even secure, which basically guarantees failure. Some of the areas you have to build are large and you need time to build proper defenses, especially if you aren't playing with a full team.

- Sometimes a level will have a sandstorm that lasts the entire round and it's so thick you can't see anything...the entire round. I get it, sandstorm, cool. Players still need to see.

- Game is a month or so old and the player base is effectively dead. Sometimes can't matchmake at all. Most times only get in a half full game and you can't really win without a full team.

PROS:

- Honestly. I'm not feeling any. I keep trying to feel something, but I'm getting nothing out of this.

Note To Self: JUST STOP WITH THE EARLY ACCESS PURCHASES.

Trash like the last one.

Have fun absolutely dominating players who don't die, then kill you. Then waiting on a loading screen for way longer than is reasonable.

Move along. There are much better things to play. The gameplay here is atrocious.

Should have listened to the reviews. This game is plagued by hackers. Kill cam will constantly show you getting killed by infantry through entire hillsides or through multiple walls, accurately. I watched a guy get literally nothing but headshots over the course of a little over an hour. Hundreds of kills. Players will come around corners knowing your exact location in a large area. It's really obvious and pretty sad because without the hackers this would be a solid Battlefield title. The gunplay is good. The immersion is good. The maps look great, but the gameplay is pretty bad on most of them. Offense almost always gets stuck at really crappy chokepoints where you're just waiting for your tickets to expire so you can go to the next map.

I waited for this title to be on sale for $12 because the Battlefield series has been going downhill for some time, in my opinion. I've purchased every game in the series since the beginning, minus Hardline. This will be my last Battlefield purchase. They just aren't worth the time or money anymore, despite looking really cool.

Wasn't horrible. Just not that impressed. Gameplay got repetitive. Story was relatively vague and not that interesting. Boss fights were mostly just kiting them around and my player would often get overwhelmed and literally trapped in a circle of enemies so I couldn't move and then died. Just kind of a "meh" game with consistent moments of gameplay frustration.

Meh.

It looks great, but the gameplay just isn't there. The server browser takes forever to populate. The wait time for respawn is often too long. You run at walking speed, which really sucks because you have to run LONG distances to get back into the fight. That's honestly the worst part. You'll spend the majority of your time in this game just running back to the front line. Most of the levels I played had so little cover that you just end up getting near the front line and getting sniped because you had no cover to move to. And this is coming from someone that's been playing Red Orchestra/Rising Storm for years. I'm used to the treks from spawn to the front line and playing conservatively because it's one shot, one kill. But it just doesn't work in this game. Too annoying.

If you're looking for a good tactical, squad-based war game, stick with the Red Orchestra/Rising Storm series.. They're much better.

Every year or two I jump back into this game to see if it has improved in ways that matter. It hasn't.

This is a large-scale, open-world battle game and you aren't provided with a scoped weapon option by default, which makes you nothing but target practice for those that have scoped weapons. It says I'm 27 hours in, which might be right, but I feel like there used to be an alternate launcher as I feel like I have more than 27 hours over the course of the years since it was released.

At a theoretical 27 hours in, focused on trying to get to the point where I can attach a scope and start actually being able to compete, I'm still not really that close. The vast majority of my in-game experience is using tactical awareness to put myself in an advantage to get the element of surprise over an enemy and having that not matter at all and getting destroyed simply because they put in exponentially more hours of being fodder so they could attach a scope or some other attachment or perk that takes forever to unlock. And the point where I can start unlocking some of the stuff that matters is still so far away for me that I simply don't care to keep getting slaughtered to get to that point. And you still have to use the in-game money to buy the attachments after you unlock them. And they're expensive. This game simply doesn't have a good balance for upgrades in regards to the amount of time/effort required and the competitiveness of players that don't have those upgrades in comparison to the ones that do. You will not enjoy this game for a very long time after starting to play. Although, I concede, that after some point, it may actually become enjoyable.

It's really unfortunate because all the other elements to make this a good game are there. You simply can't enjoy it until you've pulled your hair out screaming at your monitor for many, many hours. Spend a little money on the Red Orchestra/Rising Storm series and you'll get a similar experience that's way more enjoyable.
