Learn the game. Play the scenarios. Play with friends and on servers. Check out the workshop, make custom designs, build and save your own creations. Use those creations as tools to dominate.

This is not a true hardcore survival game, but still solid in that you can die if you do not think and prepare for your excursion. This game is a genre pioneer as a mining/building game with the ability to save designs which you create yourself and can later spawn into any server (rules permitting) as long as you have the resources. Not much of a creative designer? Browse the vast steam workshop for cool looking stuff, spawn it into creative, and tweak around with things - learning means you build a better and more functional tool which you can use in the game and which has your own unique design.

Don't expect a triple A title here, or a theme park that guides you and holds your hand. Make your own journey and experience what's out there. In games like this, the interactions of players and their creations are a large part of the content.

A game that caters to people who enjoy fine detail. It takes a fair bit of effort to work your way through this game, but that is its true goal, to challenge and intrigue the player's mind. The story is fantastical in its design and manages to avoid many of the pitfalls that modern story driven games fall into, such as getting too abstract or being filled with nonsensical metaphors. DOS was definitely crafted by talented, hardworking people.

Not a game for people who hate micromanaging.
