3,510.5 hrs on record (3,472.3 hrs at review time)
3000 or so hours is the number of hours I have spent playing this game. I have been playing this on and off game from close to the beginning when it was released in 2013.
So it saddens me to have this leave this negative review but it is wholly deserved for a game like War Thunder.

War Thunder is a F2P game that prides itself in providing a full suite of combined arms (air, ground and sea), somewhat realistically-modeled vehicles that overall works well in providing players various different options for playing vehicles.

Unfortunately, this is coupled with an unnecessarily cruel grinding experience that is UNAVOIDABLE and punishing. To obtain new vehicles and move-up the tech tree, you need commodities called Silver Lion (SL). The rate at which these Silver Lions can be obtained is tiny and is intended to make the game a grind-fest. The developer, Gaijin, over the past 10 years has repeatedly stepped and made efforts to make this grinding experience worst and worst. From removing 5x daily bonuses to outright reducing the rates.
Even premium vehicles which are purchased via real money have had their SL-rates reduced, all in an effort by the developers to move their more expensive products more attractive in terms of their SL gains.

The intent of the developers in a recent blog post is disgusting and outright drips of hypocrisy. It mention that the game should be designed to ease players into the game and that they should learn the various vehicles (hence why the extend the grinding experience). Unfortunately, what they say on one-hand is contradicted by their overall actions to introduce more and more premium vehicles.

To even have a fair CHANCE of a positive-return in SL, you need to have both a Premium Account and Premium Vehicles. If you intend to play a normal vehicle with a normal account, the grinding experience is absolutely punishing and could likely take years if you wish to have a varied experience across all nations and vehicles.

For far too long, Gaijin has been swinging a sledgehammer at its players and the game-economy. They have shown that they do not respect the player-base and are only interested in money in their wallet.

Do yourself a favour, find yourself something else to play. This game isn't worth it anymore. Not for someone who has played this for 3000+ hours and certainly not for someone who is about to join.
