Excellent art, superb narration, and most importantly, incredible atmosphere. This game is oozing atmosphere from every pore and the world-building leaves you hungering to know more.

Unfortunately it's all shackled to some godawful gameplay, a mixture of poor platforming and weak puzzles, all of which appear to exist as a bit of an afterthought to make this a game. It feels like something that would be so much better suited to being a point & click, or just fully accepting that it wanted to be a mood piece and become a walking simulator.

Somewhere along the way the narrative gives up pretending that it's really anything other than a metaphor, or just a generation of mood, and the ending may well leave you feeling empty for it. There's also a slightly clunky "this is the message" moment near the end.

A light puzzler which has a room structure reminiscent of the games of the 8-bit era, but with lush, modern production values.

It suffers somewhat for never building up its puzzle structure beyond simple observation. It doesn't really gets much more complex than the tutorial puzzle, the powers you gain don't create new layers for you to work with, and the house being interconnected is mainly irrelevant. Still, if you come at it as a light diversion, it doesn't overstay its welcome and ends with a satisfying conclusion.

The collectathon nonsense can be safely ignored.

It's fun, but there's simply too much repetition and not enough fresh content to keep me going until the end. I can see it working better as a mobile game.

Attempts to tackle some heavy themes but is unable to do so due to the dialogue being written by a child who just learnt the word "boobies" and the protagonist being less mature than his 12-year old ward.

This is a game about solving a crime which focus on exploration, unlocking new movement mechanics, and dialogue with an interesting cast.

The problem is that Paradise Killer is also a game about that which is more confident in its delivery, with a stronger cast, more interesting exploration, better usage of movement mechanics, and a case which does a better job of tying the whole cast into it. It also doesn't delve into the subpar combat that this game has for some reason decided it must tack on.

Yet I'd still recommend Forgotten City because it's a good game and hopefully representative of a growing genre, one you previously only really found served through visual novels. It's just that if you have to pick just one game I'd pick Paradise Killer in a heartbeat.

Like the first game this is a lavish production with incredible art, atmospheric music, and a beautiful dynamic background system. I only wish other visual novels were as well produced.

Unfortunately, that's where the good ends. The game feels like a step back from the first through being almost entirely linear far more than its predecessor, with few choices of side-content, and that content never tying back into the main story. The feeding system is also seemingly abandoned and your powers a seeming irrelevance. It attempts to rectify this with the traits system, where choices you make predetermine things that happen later, but it culminates in another deeply unsatisfying ending and doesn't come close to making up for the lack of impact you otherwise have.

It commits the ultimate sin of being an investigative story where nothing except the last 15 minutes matters, and the key discovery happens off-screen and is something you character knows and you don't. It was further let down by trying to reveal a twist, but I was at an utter loss what the author was trying to convey and had to look it up in the wiki. The game has a dictionary to explain universe terminology, and then decides to stop using it at this key juncture.

Ultimately, if you didn't like the first game you probably won't like this either. While the first ends in an unsatisfying way, I enjoyed the journey and shaping my own story, but here I was too much a passenger.

It's fine, though a game you play after Hollow Knight. A competent game which is fun to play, but doesn't amaze in any particulars. Suffers from a rather arbitrary true ending with no real lead up, and a story and characters so slight they barely exist. I enjoyed the ride though.

Some dialogue responses are missing the text that tells you what they say. Given that dialogue is the entirety of the game, this is a rather serious bug. At this point in the game's life it seems this is unlikely to be resolved and so while it's a fun visual novel with high graphical production values, I cannot recommend it.

Probably my favourite game published under the Wadjet Eye Games label. A world that teases you with its lore and pushes you to dig deeper. A great balance when it comes to difficulty, combined with a good hint system in Crispin should you get too stuck. Finally, there are a surprising number of alternative ways of handling various puzzles, I don't think I've encountered a point & click with so many before.
