Supergiant has always had a reputation for games that combine story, a unique graphical style, and an excellent soundtrack, and Hades nails all of these elements in a big way.
The gameplay is action roguelite, with the typical Supergiant flair.
What really sets this game apart is the sheer depth of writing. Unlike most roguelites where you just go run after run and other than the incremental upgrades to your character, not much really happens otherwise, Hades has story elements that progress after each run, such that you don't mind failing, just to see what comes next.
I do not hesitate to recommend this game, and it is my 2020 Game of the Year by some margin.

I wanted to love this game, I really did. And for 90% of it I absolutely loved it. The aesthetic and music, crossed with the kinda Hotline Miami style gameplay were really good.
Then I got to the final boss, that is possibly the most unfair boss I have ever come across. It has attacks that just stunlock you to death from full that you often cannot dodge because you just finished dodging the other insta-kill attack.

Up to the final boss the game is a highly recommend, but I just cannot recommend a game that has something that just feels so arbitrary as to when it wants to just kill you with no real way to avoid it.

This is a great game if you want to experience the atmosphere of being in a Blade Runner-esque city. The driving around in your HOVA car, and even the on foot sections really do feel like you are in a living breathing city.
The actual game itself is good, but not great. There is often not a lot of choice to be made in the game, just going from point A to point B, but the incidental conversations you have on the way really add to that atmosphere.
Some of the writing is really great, such as the 'detective' part of the story (I'll say no more than that) and some is just average.
There are certain parts of the game that feel like they could be fleshed out more, particularly the collectibles aspect, it almost feels a little tacked on, but given it is optional, I don't think it detracts from the main gameplay.
I would recommend this game wholeheartedly if it's on sale, and even if not, if you want to feel like you're in some sort of mega futuristic city, this is the game for you.

Very much enjoyed playing this. If you are a fan of metroidvanias then you will probably enjoy it.
Just be aware the combat isn't trivial for some of the enemies, and the platforming can at times be a little frustrating.

Excellent art style and animation, and the music definitely adds to the atmosphere.

Such a great game, and the rogue-lite element means although the castle layout is similar every time, no two games are ever the same!

A fantastic homage to the platformers of old - tough without being punishingly hard, and the soundtrack is amazing.
