I've had the game since launch. It was fun before, but it did feel limited. The new talent tree update fixed the biggest issue I had with that. Before, I thought they needed to release at least like 4 more careers before the game could feel full. Now, it is on much better footing. I still want more careers (getting tired of all of my random groups being at least 50% psykers), but I am now MUCH more comfortable with them coming out slowly.
I'm now happier to recommend this game to my friends, and I am trying to bring back friends who tried it and quit early on.

The free cosmetics are fine. There is plenty of cool stuff you can unlock for free. Yes, the paid stuff is often cooler and of course more unique because not everyone pays for it, but it's just cosmetics so don't listen to people freaking out about it. This is the reality of live service games. Darktide is not yet in its final form. Fat Shark games are always being expanded, and this will be no different. Anyone who plays Vermintide 2 can attest to the scale and quality of FREE content expansions that they put out, and are STILL putting out. If they do stuff like that here, I am happy to buy premium cosmetics from time to time. It's a way to offer support for continued development of free content, as well as maintenance and constant patches etc.

Ultimately, I'm now excited to see where this game is going to go and how it is going to grow. And I definitely recommend that you join in the fun.

I've been playing this game off and on for a long time, so I've seen it develop over time. Ultimately, it's a fun game that's definitely worth playing if you like this style of large multiplayer realistic shooters. I have not really played with a group, but as a Planetside 2 player I can see that the game would be a TON of fun if you had an organized outfit to play with.

That being said, the game has a couple of major issues that get really irritating.
1. There really aren't that maps and it can really start to get old after a while. The maps that exist are all very different, which is good. And when you play them, the starting positions of the attackers (and therefore the places where the defenders have to hold) change due to the larger Generals aspect of the game. Still, they do tend to get a little samey
2. There are a couple balance issues that get really annoying. First, it is too easy to be accurate with tanks. Ultimately, you'll find that some guy in a tank across the map where you can't even see it will snipe you with a headshot as soon as you spawn. And tank players know this, so they often just drive up onto the forested hillsides on the side of the map to just snipe the whole game. The second balance issue that bugs me is that bolt-action rifles can, with certain mod set-ups, 1-shot players with a torso shot. While I understand the realism involved here, it's a real balance issue because it means that a lot of players will just run around with BA rifles for use in close combat and will beat players with SMGs, which are designed for close combat, 80% of the time.

Now, my gripes out of the way....as I said, if you like this style of game, Heroes and Generals is definitely worth a shot.
