Walking sad simulator

Having played both Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light before this one, I must say I'm a bit surprised by the turn this series has taken. Very refreshing though.

A narrative driven game with a mechanic for interrupting people. 10/10

The defining moment for me was when I found myself breaking into a heavily secured bank; not because a quest told me to (it did eventually of course), but because it was there and I was curious.

Sure, the main story is not very good, maybe even tedious at some times, but in my opinion this is royally compensated by the story the world has to tell. When you stumble into an abandoned apartment and you're trying to piece together what happened to the occupants, not while blindly following quest markers, but by simply looking around yourself, examining items, notes, emails; all just out of curiosity. This is where the games truly shines.

The world isn't very large, but it is very dense, and, to me anyway, very alive and believable (and explorable). And in that respect, as an immersive sim (which was basically the defining aspect of the original Deus Ex), this game holds up incredibly well.

If you like Portal you have to play this. Increadibly good.
