Dead by Daylight is an asymmetric survival horror video game developed by Behaviour Interactive. The game is played as a one versus four online multiplayer where one player takes on the role of the savage killer, and the other four players play as survivors, trying to escape the killer and avoid being caught and sacrificed to the Entity.

Me and this game have a love-hate relationship. I've been playing this game for almost two years, with a three months break. When I started playing this game, back in December 2018, the newest DLC was Darkness Among Us (the one with Legion and Jeff). It soon became my favorite game and that lasted for a while. I've bought almost every DLC for the game (without some cosmetic DLCs and Darkness Among Us, I bought the characters from that one from the in-game store).

The gameplay is simple: survivors must repair 5 of the 7 generators in order to power the gates and then, open them. The killer has to stop them by, of course, killing them. Players have the ability to choose from a large pool of characters, which, have special abilities called perks. Every killer has a special power, while the survivors are mostly re-skins.

The problems this game has are the micro-transactions, the bugs, the META and the community. Micro-transactions are HUGE in this game. Every DLC character has to be bought with 9000 shards (about 35-40 levels) through the in-game store or actually buy the DLC to have the access to characters. The licensed characters can only be bought with 500 auric cells (equal to $5) or, of course, you can have the access to them by buying the said DLC. The bugs are here and there, some are game-breaking, some are minor, but they are a pain in the a** anyways. And then we have the meta, which consists of perks. The most used survivors perks are: Borrowed Time, Decisive Strike, Adrenaline, Dead Hard and Sprint Burst, because well, these are the best survivor perks. The most used killer perks are: Barbecue & Chilli, Corrupt Intervention, Pop Goes the Weasel, A Nurse’s Calling, HEX: No One Escapes Death, because, well these are the best perks in the game. Most players use these perks in order to maximize the probability to win. And the biggest problem of this game is the community itself. It isn’t a huge community, but God is it toxic. Most of the players are at each-others’ throats because some main killer, while the others main survivors. The end-game chat is, in most cases, toxic and you’re better off with it closed.

The leveling system is a problem as well. There are 5 types of ranks: Brown Ranks (20-17), Yellow Ranks (16-13), Green Ranks (12-9), Purple Ranks (8-5) and Red Ranks (4-1). Brown is the worst, Red is the best. But, the matchmaking system is f****d and you get matched with players that are way ahead of your rank. In this game, ranking up makes literally no sense because it only grants you more stress and toxicity.

All in all, this game is a hit or miss. Should you give it a try? For sure.
