I never write reviews but I feel compelled to make an exception.

This story kicked my emotions all over the place. I'll never forget it. I often think about it now, ~4 months later. Brutal marathon fights, lighthearted fun such as bowling with Emiri, the unraveling of the mystery that keeps tugging you along harder and harder at each focal point. I think I have experienced one of the best games that I will ever come across.

What has already been said. It can at times be very difficult and the sections that promote gunplay over stealth will probably require a few restarts due to the mechanics not really being beneficial in those situations. I played on hard and had to hop back to checkpoints a lot.

I want to add that what I think contributes the most to what people call "good atmosphere" is the music. It is some kind of ambient/borderline musique concrete thing that will make you feel like you're in hell.

An enjoyable experience that can be recommended for its atmosphere.

After many retries I started out as a craftswoman to start a business, get a patron husband and take office within the first turn. Proceeded to have two daughters and apply for office with both husband and wife and upgrade the business once. With the city informants now under my control, I got large amounts of evidence against two rogue families, one of which stole some oak wood from me early on. I blackmailed them for huge amounts of experience with both husband and wife. And so it went on and on.

Now at year 1432, or turn 9 I think (Dynasty Mode), I have 4 fully upgraded businesses. I turned my husband and second daughter, named Burbles, into powerful fighters with the best equipment. The husband just had outlaw status lifted from him after 8 years as he didn't get immunity before being accused of that which made him a "walking nightmare", so he's been running between our hut, the church and the town hall to attend elections without being swarmed by bailiffs which attack him on sight. While the husband was out of commission, Burbles continued his legacy of blackmail, theft and murder. She has already been accused, but I will be judge in the trial. Now, finally, father and daughter can commit murder together.

I've completely ignored the first daughter, named Hurkle. I simply sent her to school and she came back as
Dr. Noblewoman Hurkle ♥♥♥♥-my-lord. For all that money, her stats rose from 1 to 2-3 and she goes to church all the time.

However, doing all this may feel clunky if you just jump right into the game. I had to do the tutorial first to understand the basics, and even then some things are not (well) explained. I also read that the Renaissance expansion is better for bringing the best features and the least bugs.

There's decent challenges in this game, the music fits every area, it looks nice and.. well.. teleport.

I got teleport halfway through the game, which means teleporting to anywhere on the screen if there isn't geometry between you and your destination. Didn't use much else for conveyance after that. It took quite a while before I put energy into any skill tree that would make me a better fighter, but enemies can be skipped mostly and do not yield as much energy as exploration. Early bosses are doable without combat skills and the fights themselves are pretty interesting. Some felt like a bullet hell at times, or just hell. I cheated against that secret boss by teleporting back to a checkpoint. It took a long time. Trying legitimately I never got past its second phase.

In the very final area, if I went from the bottom east to the bottom west the background would suddenly become black and my character and enemies would be flickering and if I kept walking I would fall through the floor eventually without being able to teleporthax back, so I lost some progress there. I tried it three times, and it happened every time. Going west to east was fine though. The screen also froze randomly at times for a few seconds but that has been happening with everything I do lately so.. yeah. If this happened in mid-air however, even the slightest jump would hurt like a fall from heaven.

The grammar is weird, and occasionally the spelling is wrong too. It was consistent enough for me to start thinking it was a trait of the protagonists race or something.
