I think most can agree that this game has great gameplay and I can't even come up with a game with a similar style but it falls flat after a few hours. After 2-3 provinces you can be sure you did everything the game has to offer and don't need to keep going since there is also basically 0 story going on. It simply has no actual progress apart from getting 1 level higher gear.
The loot in general is kinda boring and just a game of chance to get good stuff.

Maybe they can fix this stuff with a big 2.0 kind of patch or a sequel. It has potential for sure.

I played the new patch and gave it another chance. The bosses are kinda boring, since there are only 2 and there is no other enemy on the map at all times. At least add some mechs against me and make the boss power up, and if you take too long you have to fight mechs and the boss. For example.

The gameplay loop barely changed at all. I play 3 provinces and did all missions multiple times. There is no real threat. The game is very easy even if you change the parameters.

The game was a 6/10 after it came out. And now after the patch it's like 6.5/10.

The 1.2 patch has done great job of improving the game play/loop.
Bosses are great and Intense and add another level of gameplay.
As you said there isnt anything else like it, you should give it another chance, There are some different mission types as well which i never encountered in my first playthought as well, not sure when they was added.
