It’s just a whatever clicker game, full of horny anime dudes and just-suggestive-enough-content to attract gooners. If you want good writing or an interesting dating sim, not for you. It gets boring quick and is pretty generic. If you even want anything porn-like you’ll need to cough up something like 8$, which at that point you might as well just go on the hub or similar. The voice acting, however, is pretty solid, so good for them and kudos in that department.

I purchased this game perhaps a year or more ago, played it for 25 minutes, and never touched it for forever. I ended up losing my computer (currently writing this on mobile) and was incredibly disappointed that I was not able to get back into the game after my interest in it piqued again- all until very recently as it was released on the Nintendo Switch.

Now, after about 20-ish hours playing the game on the switch, I’m absolutely enamored. The music is gorgeous, a cacophony of horns and twangy rhythmic guitar, droning synth, high tempo disco music, etc. I highly reccomend listening to it, even if it’s just in the background.

The art is beautiful, the portraits able to capture the unique faces and personalities of all the amazing citizens of Revachol that you meet, as well as the hauntingly captivating portraits of your skills (clearly, I really like half-lights portrait) that can convey so much emotion. The background are meticulously designed and capture the perfect eerie feeling of walking through this recovering post-war city. It’s like walking through an acrylic or oil pastel artwork.

As for the FULLY VOICE ACTED CAST, Lenval Brown absolutely nails his roles as the skills and your inner thoughts, the overall narrator of everything that happens. It’s really like listening to how my brain talks to itself, arguing and making decisions, like it took a peek inside my head. Anyways, not just Brown, but also every single other side character, has amazing voice work. They all feel like real, tangible people.

Where this amazing game really shines is the writing. It’s said that there are 1.2 million words in the game, which is literally longer than the entire LOTR trilogy. (In fact, it’s more than twice as large, as the LOTR trilogy is only a measly 480,000 words!)
With that, I’m not gonna sugarcoat it, Disco Elysium is honestly like reading a really long book (and that may be obvious to some), but it’s a book you cannot put down. The lore and world building of the entire town is so well thought out, it almost feels like reading genuine history. There’s so many little lore bits about the city and world that I’m sure a large amount of players will miss their first time through.
The writing for the interactions with NPCs and Kim are so natural, so fluid and realistic it’s almost like watching a genuine conversation, or even having one. You can see all the minute details of a person you’re talking to, you can draw conclusions from the composure or even see into their souls with empathy- All of these are small things we subconsciously do in real life, and Disco Elysium nails how it feels. Just, mwah. Amazing writing my god.

Finally, I’m not quite fully in on the scoop of what’s happened with ZA/UM; I’ve only purchased the switch version about a week ago and haven’t kept up online, but from my rough and limited understanding, the original creators *are not even being payed for this absolute masterpiece.* It’s a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ travesty against art and almost cruelly ironic given some of the anti-capital sentiments discussed in game.

Overall, a 10/10 game, a genuinely life changing experience to play, yet- don’t buy it here. Don’t give this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ corpo your money. Go pirate this game on your own. And go check out what the RIGHTFUL CREATORS are doing, and maybe even find a way to support them.

That is all. Have a wonderful day, whoever you might be.

I sleep and the belts appear in my dreams. Like the whispers of a Great Old One, it embeds itself snugly into my grey matter, like a gargantuan pillar made of sleek, smooth marble; and etched into it are these words:

**The factory must grow.**
