If your automotive knowledge doesn't go any further than using the ignition key or start button, this can be an interesting learning experience...on how to make a bad game.

It feels like one of those EA sports games that just got slapped new teams and graphics and another heftier price tag. To be fair, the late 1980's Streed Rod MS-DOS game was better.

Don't buy this before a patch correcting the current control issues is released, it's a complete waste of money as is. The developers really dropped the ball on this one.

It's a shame, as it feels like it really has a lot of potential but it's just unplayable at the moment.

Early Access Review
There are so many sandbox survival/exploration games coming out right now, especially unfinished projects in early access that I almost passed by this gem of a game. I sure am glad I didn't!

Playing Empyrion in single game PvE mode you forget that it is still in alpha. Everything seems to work and there are even quite complete tutorials covering the basics. I have yet to experience a single crash or weird bug after ~15hrs of gameplay. Games like this always take a while to get used to and the same is true to Empyrion; the controls for operating the various building blocks and modules may seem a bit funny at first but after some experimenting you get the logic and it becomes quite a breeze. The logic is somewhat similar to Space Engineers, but in my opinion the placement and the rotation of objects is much more intuitive.

I am aware that I have only about 15 hours of gameplay under my belt at the time of this review and I feel that I have only scratched the surface of this game, but the experience has been very enjoyable and hassle-free even though this game is still in alpha. I'm quite hooked and would sincerely recommend this game to anyone interested in this genre.

There is a problem with Stellaris steam installation setup program, it asks way too personal questions. :) Steam account names etc :)

It is a dumbed down version. I hope they get this running on xbox or ps4.
It is completely different from what it was supposed to be.

Dead man's Switch, Dragonfall and Hong Kong. Those are the things you should be looking for. :)

Updated review:
I rediscovered this game recently in my games library and decided to give it another go, this time with Killatomate's Realistic Rebalance mod 1.83.

It feels like a completely different experience. I'm sure that it's partly due to lowered expectations and I'm not comparing it directly to the original JA2 anymore, but the Realistic Rebalance mod actually makes it quite enjoyable. It's still missing a lot of what JA2 had, but it's enough to make me change it to a positive recommendation.

My original review of the vanilla game:
As a huge fan of the old Jagged Alliance games I really want to like this one, but after hours of cursing at the clumsy UI, crazy mechanics, numerous map bugs and the seemingly all-seeing omnipotent AI, one does realize that there's only so much kicking in the teeth any sane person can take. So in a nutshell, if you value your sanity and/or time AT ALL, skip this one.
