I don't like DLCs generally, since they tend to devolve to extensions of the base game. After a thirty-hour story-driven masterpiece like Prey that's not what I was looking for. Someone at Arkane knew this and switched gears completely. "What is the player left wanting?" seems to have been the foundation on which this DLC was built.

Prey, the base game, promotes a very careful and stealthy playstyle, but the mechanics themselves allow for much more. The game also features a ton of skills that the average player won't experience on a first playthrough. Mooncrash sets out to mend both: it forces a more aggressive and varied playstyle that engages with all that the game has to offer in terms of combat.

Yes, there's a timer. Yes, it's a roguelite. Yes, you'll play as multiple characters instead of just your favorite one. But I hope you can look past all this coarse design and see that it was necessary in order to deliver this unique experience. Without the timer, you wouldn't play risky. Without the roguelite elements, the game would lose it's most unique mechanics. Without the multiple characters, you wouldn't be able to experience all the skills and abilities that you avoided or otherwise missed in the base game. It was all part of the plan. Trust it.

I don't think of this game as a roguelite at all for the record, and I'm not sure you'll like it if that's what you're looking for. I recommend this for anyone who has finished the base game and wants an insanely well crafted sandbox to experiment more with the mechanics in. That's who I think this was intended for. 10/10
